At Todays FDC Full Council

View Here…..

At todays Full Council @ FDC, I asked two questions of cabinet members.

1/ Is there any news of engagement with the newly installed Cambs CC in respect of Parking Enforcement – Answer from Cllr French – No Contact No progress.
2/ Question to Cllr Boden (Leader) with reference to the Whittlesey Relief Road – Strategic Outline Business Case. Given the ‘low’ Benifit to Cost Ratio, and further funding of £220,000 required for the next stage.
Can the Leader explain how funding will be obtained- even though there are strong arguments for a Relief Road. The Royal Haskoning report March 2921 is now 4 years old and is this relevant today….

You can view Cllr Boden Reply by clicking on the link above and go to 22 minutes 15 seconds into the YouTube broadcast.

Message From E-Cops….

We’re issuing a warning ahead of the bank holiday weekend after a spike in burglaries last year.

There were more burglaries on the week of the late May bank holiday than at any other time in 2024.

Although some homes were broken into, many thieves acted as opportunists, stealing items when windows were left open or doors unlocked.

We’re asking residents to remain extra vigilant and ensure their property is secure at all times.

Amnesty & Knife Crime

Do you or the people you love know the true consequences of knife crime? These can include:

  • A four-year prison sentence just for carrying a weapon
  • A permanent criminal record, which you have to declare for the rest of your life (for example when applying for jobs or going on holiday)
  • If you carry a knife for protection, you’re more likely to have it used against you

Our weapons amnesty takes place this week, but we speak to young people at schools about the dangers of knife crime all year round. However, we can’t do it alone.

Having a conversation with the children or teenagers in your life about knife crime could make all the difference.

There have been some heart-breaking cases in Cambridgeshire in recent years where young men have lost their lives because of a drugs dispute or because their attacker decided to carry a weapon.

For more info about this week’s knife amnesty, how you can hand in knives and other weapons, and knife crime in general, please see this latest news story our website

Out & About Yesterday…..

Although somewhat cool, I went out for a few hours and met up with ‘Friends of Platinum Wood’ @ Yarwells Headlands – just a few helping to keep the area tidy and some tree maintenance, I cleaned up the seating area’s.
Fellow lead on this project Cllr eamonn Dorling has just secured a small grant from ‘Glassmoor bank Wind Turbine Fund’ for some enhancements later this year, we have also been donated another (used) seating bench, which Eamoon is doing up.

I then went off ‘Litterpicking’ around town, The StreetPride Group were at Kings delph and I met up with them for a coffee in town afterwards….
Yet another load of rubbish and litter removed from the environment…

Twelve members attended the litter pick this morning, but they still managed to collect 14 bags of litter plus Chris collected another 4 bags on his way to Kings Delph.

The next litter pick will be at the Butter Cross – 10am – 31st May 2025. I hope that you can make it, it would be good to see you attending.
(Thanks PD)
