Market Place – Upgrade and Refurb

Clark Decorators commencing painting works on Monday 09, weather depending.

Painting works to be as per attached plan, inc 2 extra bollards on RHS of MP, near Taxis
The litter bins embellishments will be re-painted gold, as per original spec in 1999/2000.
Once the painting is compete, I plan then to steam clean/HPWJ the whole MP, and then lay double yellow lines around the kerb near the Buttercross to highlight the change in height.

I understand you have a pallet truck to move the planers on events – please can we use it when we undertake the steam cleaning.  Not sure of date yet, will come back to when confirmed.
I’m looking forward to seeing the difference pre/post – I put the scheme in 25 years ago, where does time go.

Kevin Gove.

Chancellor Announces £15bn For Transport Projects

BBC News – Click Here…..

No mention of The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.

Maybe – just Maybe – there could be hope?

Following the speech Reeves was asked if there would be funding for a new rail link between Manchester and Liverpool.

She replied that there would be “more to come next week” when she delivers her Spending Review.

Billions of pounds of investment in transport infrastructure in England have been announced by Chancellor Rachel Reeves.

The money will be spent on tram, train and bus projects in mayoral authorities across the Midlands, the North and the West Country.

The move comes before the government’s spending review next week, which will determine how much money each Whitehall department gets over the next three to four years.

Reeves has been under pressure from Labour MPs to spend money following criticism of relentless economic gloom, particularly concerning disability and benefit cuts.

Trams form the backbone of the investment plans, with Greater Manchester getting £2.5bn to extend its network to Stockport and add stops in Bury, Manchester and Oldham, and the West Midlands getting £2.4bn to extend services from Birmingham city centre to the new sports quarter.

There will also be £2.1bn to start building the West Yorkshire Mass Transit programme by 2028, and build new bus stations in Bradford and Wakefield.

Six more metro mayors will receive transport investments:

  • £1.5bn for South Yorkshire to renew the tram network as well as bus services across Sheffield, Doncaster and Rotherham by 2027

  • £1.6bn for Liverpool city region with faster connections to Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Everton stadium and Anfield, and a new bus fleet in St Helens and the Wirral next year

  • £1.8bn for the North East to extend the Newcastle to Sunderland Metro via Washington

  • £800m for West of England to improve rail infrastructure, provide more frequent trains between the Brabazon industrial estate in Bristol and the city centre, and develop mass transit between Bristol, Bath, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset

  • £1bn for Tees Valley including a £60m platform extension programme for Middlesbrough station

  • £2bn for the East Midlands to improve road, rail and bus connections between Derby and Nottingham.

The transport investment marks Reeves’ first open move away from the stringent rules in the Treasury’s Green Book, external, which is used by officials to calculate the value for money of major projects.

The book has been criticised for favouring London and the south-east. Labour MP Jeevun Sandher, a member of the Treasury Committee, complained of its “hardwired London bias” in April.

RG Note I think those who would believe the Whittlesey Relief Road project, can rest assured it isn’t going to happen for some even more considerable time, than was originally thought.

An Update From Your Rural Officers!

It was a busy day in Whittlesey for our rural officers yesterday! Here is what they got up to:

Seized a suspected stolen trailer, where one ID plate had been covered and the other removed.

Seized a car in Bassenhally Road due to the vehicle not having any tax or an updated MOT, and the driver did not have a licence or insurance!

Came across this pot full of wraps in Bassenhally Road! If this is your pot, feel free to get in contact to have a chat with us and get it back… minus the contents of course 😉

You can read more about driving offences, and their penalties, on our website.

Any information or concerns about drug dealing in your area can be reported to us here

Wetherspoons ‘Dog’ Policy – Update

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

We confirm that we have made a revision to our long-standing ‘no-dog’ policy which took effect on 2nd May.

The policy has been revised to ensure we have a clearly understood policy that can be applied consistently by our members of staff. Customers with guide dogs and assistance dogs with training by ADUK accredited organizations will be allowed entry with their dogs; however, our ‘no-dog policy’ will apply otherwise. We believe that the certainty and clarity will be helpful to everyone involved.

The policy has been prompted by an increase in customers seeking to enter our premises with dogs they claim are assistance dogs. ID cards, harnesses and jackets that can be easily purchased online without the necessity to provide any information as to a dog’s training or a medical need do not prove a dog is a bona fide assistance dog. This has caused considerable uncertainty for our employees when applying our ‘no-dog’ policy.

Our pubs are extremely busy places. It is imperative that, in the interests of all concerned and in particularly for the health and safety of staff and customers, only trained dogs are allowed in our premises and, equally, that our employees can consistently apply a policy to ensure that this is the case.

Whilst we note your comments, we believe our approach constitutes a reasonable adjustment to our “no dogs” policy based on the circumstances outlined.

Many thanks,
