Nostalgia Sunday…

Known to be a bit impulsive in my younger days, once on our journey to Malaysia in the 1980’s, I decided to export a Malaysian Tri-Shaw.

It wasn’t in very good condition, but the guy who sold me it knew its value to a Brit.
So boxed up and shipped back to Blighty at vast expense.

My Dad and I did it up (sort of) and found that the wheel rims were dated 1948 made in Great Britain by the Reynolds Wheel Co.

Here we are with two of my visiting Sister-in-Laws (2009)

Alas the Trishaw is no more, I had nowhere to store it and sold it at a loss.

Moral of the story is that ‘If you’re going to make a pratt of yourself do a good job of it’

Busy times, for the enforcers.

During the reporting period, the CPMW team received 21 new complaints related to potential breaches of planning control, while 11 cases remained from prior investigations, giving a total of 32 complaints under active investigation. Of these:

Six cases resulted in formal notices being served, three of which are currently subject to appeal with the Planning Inspectorate.
Eight cases await submission or determination of planning applications to regularise the use of the land.
Two cases are in the process of legal review before formal enforcement action.
Ten cases remain under investigation.

Six investigations were closed after either no breach was found, or the breach was remedied following CPMW intervention.

Saxongate Update Re Johnsons & East Midlands Waste.

On 8 October, Enforcement and Monitoring officers from CCC will update the Council’s Planning Committee on their work. Item 11 of the agenda refers to Saxon Pit and specifically East Midlands Waste Management.

The report does not make it clear how these activities relate to the planning permission granted to EMWM in February 2025 (Ref. CCC/24/048/FUL) and the earlier consent for Johnsons Aggregates and Recycling Ltd – JARL (Ref. CCC/21/024/FUL). We have asked that councillors make this link clear and confirm how these rules will be enforced.

This is of particular concern given that Johnsons Aggregates and Recycling Ltd have a live Environment Agency permit variation (EPR/DP3131NM/V002) and a parallel planning application (CCC/24/091/VAR) lodged in 2024, which seeks to increase throughput from 250,000 to 460,000 tonnes per year. Both remain under determination.

Rest assured Saxongate will continue to press agencies, councillors, and our MP on residents’ behalf and will provide updates as further information becomes available.

Some CCC meetings are live streamed and you can find the minutes here:

You Asked, They Have Done It…

For every person who complains about Parking – there is at least one who complains opposite views…very contentious to say the least.
Even when ‘we’ get a small result there is always someone never happy…
What to do…

Apparently not all recent photo’s…but some are.

Due to continued reports of obstructive and illegal parking, we have been out on dedicated patrols.

In the past week, 17 tickets have been issued in Whittlesey, March, and Chatteris, including:

🚗Four tickets issued to vehicles parked in the taxi rank in Station Road, March

🚗Three tickets issued during patrols outside Park Lane school in Whittlesey at school drop-off time

These patrols will continue when we can. We can’t be everywhere, but we could be anywhere.

Tackling vehicle-related anti-social behaviour and traffic offences in the towns are on the local neighbourhood team’s list of priorities for the new quarter.~

Two Men Banned from Private and Agricultural Land for Three Years

Dear Roy,
Two men have been banned from entering private and agricultural land across England and Wales following a major hare coursing investigation.
Levi Lee, 36, of Basingstoke Road, Reading, and Francie Doherty, 47, of Gipsy Lane, Wellingborough, both pleaded guilty to attending a hare coursing event on 25 January and were each fined £500.
In addition to the fines, both men were issued three-year Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court yesterday (1 October) which prohibit them from:
• Entering or being present on any part of private or agricultural land within England and Wales, without the written permission of the owner, which can be presented to an officer upon request.
• (For Levi Lee only) Driving any vehicle with a sighthound breed dog, whilst outside of a five mile radius of his home address, unless for a pre-arranged veterinary appointment, proof of appointment to be provided to an officer upon request.
These orders follow a force-wide investigation into hare coursing and associated criminal activity that took place on Saturday, 25 January, affecting communities across Cambridgeshire.

This is a significant milestone in our efforts to tackle hare coursing and rural crime. These CBOs are believed to be the first of their kind in the country, setting a strong precedent for how seriously this type of offending is being taken. We hope this sends a clear message to others who think they can disrupt our rural communities without consequence.

Breaching a CBO is a criminal offence that can result in up to five years in prison or an unlimited fine.

A further 20 men are due to appear in court over the coming months for sentencing and trials. See more here.

Kind Regards,

Detective Inspector Matthew Selves.
Senior Investigating Officer.

Uninsured Car Seized by Neighbourhood Officers

Dear Roy,

When neighbourhood officers were out in Whittlesey yesterday morning they saw a car parked on double yellow lines and at a crossing in Market Street.

They stopped to speak to the driver and ended up seizing the car after checks revealed they did not have any insurance!

You can find out more about driving offences, and their penalties, here.

Tackling vehicle-related anti-social behaviour and traffic offences across the sector is one of the priorities for the team over the next few months.

You can find out more about the team’s priorities, and the work they have been doing,
