The awards, which are now in their 15th year, recognise and celebrate the many selfless people who go above and beyond to help their local communities – and help to make Fenland fantastic!

Presented by Fenland District Council and the Fenland Citizen with support from sponsors, the awards offer a unique opportunity for local residents to highlight the friends, family and neighbours in their life that make a difference.

Christmas Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme

I would be grateful if you could publicise the Christmas HAF programme which is funded by the Department for Education. Families in receipt of income-related free school meals (FSM), can access a holiday scheme for up to 16 hours per child and will receive enriching experiences, a meal and snacks daily. Ukrainian and other refugee families are also eligible as well as families struggling financially but not eligible for FSM. Here is our Parent Poster that can be used for publicity. CCC will be promoting the HAF Programme on Facebook and Twitter each week commencing this week, please feel free to share posts so we can reach as many eligible families as possible.

We are also looking to increase the number of HAF places we have on offer for young people aged 11+ for 2023. If you know of any local youth clubs/schemes operating through the year, I would be grateful if you could send me their email address and the name of the person to contact.

Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Community Resilience Group

I have been a member of this group since it was formed, as far as I am aware I am the only Councillor in Whittlesey that sits on this group.
They have received funding from Central Government throughout the Covid crisis and I have only been called upon on a few occasions to find help and support for those in need.
This included ‘White Goods’, Emergency Food Funding (up to £70) and now of course Energy Support. The main group locally are Age Concern based in Peterborough.

U3A Movie Evening

WHITTLESEY MOVIE EVENING
Sat. 12th November at Queen St Church
Doors 6.30pm for 7pm start
Screening “Operation Mincemeat” – cert 12A (true story)
Stars Colin Firth & Matthew Macfadyen
In the context of WW2 narratives, the story of Operation Mincemeat is unique a bizarre and seductive cinematic blend of high-level espionage and ingenious fiction, where the stakes could hardly be higher. Michelle Ashford’s script fuses multiple strands and moods: tense, romantic, thrilling, unexpectedly funny, and endlessly surprising. It tells a richly human story of the soldiers we seldom see, who fight a different kind of war in shadows and deception, haunted by the knowledge that certainty and guarantee of success are nowhere to be found.

No actual admission charges made but a suggested donation of £5pp to cover operating expenses is welcomed please. Refreshments and time for chat during interval.
