Now well publisised on all media, including earlier this week on this web-blog,
BBC News, and other Media, didn’t all get the facts correct – but thats the press?
The good news after some 9 years (In my case) of residents campaigning is that there could now be a better – ‘joined up’ approach…and promise of ongoing meetings to come.

An elderly Whittlesey resident in her 80s was taken advantage of when she was scammed of £8,000 after ‘investigators’ pressured her into handing over the money.
A spokesperson for the police said the vulnerable woman received a call from a withheld number just before Christmas from a man who said his name was DC Shepherd from the police fraud squad and that £250 had been taken from her bank account and two men were in custody for it.
The person acting as ‘DC Shepherd’ urged the elderly lady to withdraw cash from her account and leave it in a safe place under her wheelie bin at the front of her home for detectives to collect as part of the investigation.
Keen to help and concerned for her savings, the victim went to the bank and withdrew £5,000 from one account and a further £3,000 from another before placing the money in an envelope under her wheelie bin for someone to collect moments later.
The police’s cyber and fraud prevention officers have seen an increase in courier fraud scams where people are asked to leave cash in “safe places” to be collected later by investigators, or in some cases, people are asked to send cash and other valuables to addresses elsewhere in the country.
The spokesperson said: “Traditionally, courier fraudsters would send a ‘courier’ to collect cash from victims in person, but this marks a recent change of tack.”

Unfortunately, the decision has been taken to defer the Bower Footbridge replacement works until the next navigational closure window (from October 2026 onwards). This decision has been made due to a lack of sufficient confidence that the current programme would allow all works to be completed within the existing navigational closure period. To eliminate associated risks, it has therefore been deemed necessary to delay the works. Please be assured that the existing footbridge will continue to be closely monitored throughout this period to ensure public safety is maintained.
Notwithstanding navigational consent, I have instructed MGroup (CCC’s framework contractor) to ensure that all third-party activities are appropriately formalised, and that the new structure is manufactured and stored to mitigate current risks. I would be extremely disappointed if works do not commence in October 2026.

I was (0ne) of only 3 Whittlesey Councillors who attended this important public briefing.
There was 21 ‘Consultee’ members/agency/regulators in attendance.
On this first event (another later today) 26 public attendees – including, those part of businesses at Saon Pit. Only a few questions but maybe more to come.
Read through the report(s) published earlier.
In addition, Public Health is providing an update response into the latest planning application by Johnson’s who operate at Saxon Pit. We are recommending refusal.
This response will be made public tomorrow too via the CCC planning portal.
This response will be considered as part of the Planning Committee’s usual decision-making process and within that there will need to be determination of how much weight to put on the public health response.
Saxon Pit Risk Assessment Press Release - FINAL
Saxon Pit Public Health Report 13.01.26
I will be publishing the (2) reports @ 09:00 today.
From Cambs CC –
As many of you are aware from our briefing sessions last week with you, following concerns from residents about perceived health impacts from operations at Saxon Pit, Whittlesey, one of my Consultants in Public Health convened an incident management team to establish whether there are any potential harms to human health.
Partners from the public health system included Fenland District Council (Environmental Health), UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), and the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA).
As regulators, the Environment Agency and Waste Planning Authority at Cambridgeshire County Council have provided data, information, and advice into the work.
The report from this work will now be released at 9am (Tuesday) morning.
I am sending you an advanced copy of the report and press statement.
Please keep this confidential until tomorrow morning.
We have held a media briefing today and have two briefing sessions on MS Teams at
11am – 12pm and 6pm – 7pm where members of the Whittlesey community have been invited.
We will be following this up with an information session for residents in Whittlesey in a couple of weeks.
Sally Cartwright.
Director of Public Health, Cambridgeshire County Council.
