Local Plan Review Peterborough

I hope everyone is now aware – that by 2028 Fenland district Council will be no more….
Under this Governments local reorganisation of local councils, most District Councils will disappear or be absorbed by other councils.
Officers at Fenland are still very much in discussion with neighbouring authorities.
Maybe/perhaps we may come under Peterborough (Already a unitary authority)
I hope there will be some public consultation….(In Fenlands case)

So below Peterborough have opened up their draft Local Plan for the future, click on the link and will open up the document (some 190 pages) – and from there the public can make comments.

Dear Whittlesey Town Council

Re: Peterborough Local Plan Public Consultation

I am writing to inform you that Peterborough City Council is consulting on the Draft Local Plan, the second stage in the preparation of a new Local Plan for Peterborough.
This is an important document as it will determine what Peterborough will look like in the future and how it will become an even better place to live, work and visit.
The Draft Local Plan sets out criteria based policies that address the key issues in Peterborough. It also includes specific allocations for new development.

Consultation on the Draft Local Plan will take place between 11 April 2025 and 29 May 2025 at 11:59pm. Full details are available on our website at:
https://www.peterborough.gov.uk/local-plan-review
where you can read and comment on the plan and view all supporting documents.

The new Local Plan will eventually replace the Peterborough Local Plan adopted in July 2019. This is the second opportunity for you to make comments on the emerging plan and we encourage you to take this opportunity to let us know your views.

Public consultation was carried out on the Issues and Options consultation document in summer 2023, all comments received have been taken into consideration and are available to view at: https://www.peterborough.gov.uk/local-plan-review.

WTC Planning Last Night

Disclaimer : I am a committee member of Fenland District Councils Planning Committee.
I make no pre-judgement or pre-determination on this or any other application and keep an open mind as when this application may come before the committee)

It was noted that Cllr Dr. Haq Nawas was not in attendance (again).

(RG Note – Considering Dr Haq is campaining on Planning Matters – especially him wanting to stop large developments – missing last nights meeting (again) seems his
input is purely political retoric)

From Cllr Barry Wainwright (who is standing for election Whittlesey South at CCC elections 01st May)

At the meeting of the Planning committee of Whittlesey town council held last night, which was attended by all members except Cllr. Haq Nawaz, there was unanimous agreement that the committee recommend REFUSAL of the latest application for 175 houses at Drybread Road (a Reserved Matters application).

The committee shared concerns from several other consultees about the proposals from Alison Homes.

The Lead Local Floood Authority had concerns that the applicant proposed re-routing at least one waterway on the site, but failed to give details. Anglian Water were concerned about the run-offf from the site and how it could affect their systems as far away as Eastrea and even Coates, which already has severe sewage problems in times of heavy rainfall. Various drainage boards had concerns about the matter of site drainage and water courses and the Fire Authority had concerns about the lack of sufficient hydrant positions. There were several other grounds for concern, including the small size of many plots and the space for manoeuvring a refuse truck.

The whole committee thought the plans submitted were inadequate in many respects and appeared to be an attempt to pack too many houses into too small a space without regard to the amenity of future residents or the consequences of the development on the surrounding area.

Meeting This Wednesday – WisWIN

Our area has a population of around 88,000 made up of Wisbech, March, Whittlesey, Chatteris and lots of villages. So far 11,000 people from this area have signed our UK wide petition against incinerators. I fully appreciate many don’t use Facebook, or think the Wisbech mega incinerator won’t impact them – even though it will. So any suggestions?
@everyone
UPDATE: 11,000+ of the 88,000 signed as of 14th April!

Someones Not Happy – Parking Tickets

Probably the most complained about issue we get as NHW and as a councillor.
I admit that I received a parking ticket in Cambridge some 30+ years ago and it taught me a lesson.
For everyone that wants action there are some that say not so…..
From our Neighbourhood Police Team today.

We’ve been out and about in two towns in response to your concerns about illegal parking.

We patrolled St Marys Street in Whittlesey, and Grays Lane and Broad Street in March, and gave seven tickets to vehicles parked incorrectly in disabled bays, on the pavement, or on double yellow lines.

There are plenty of free car parks and areas to park, even if it means walking a little further to a destination.

Where should we go next? You can let us know your concerns here.

Near Fracas in Wisbech – Reform v Conservatives

I know it’s Sunday, should be a day of peace and quiet – alas no, some spat they had over in Wisbech on Friday, a previous post here, stated that ‘stalls needed to be registered and no political stands allowed – well thats the rule, however the situation could have been handed a lot better in an adult way than it was.
That said I and most were no actually there and rely on the video which has gone viral.
It has done no one much credit other than I would say – I thought the Police handled the situation very well indeed, which Elworthy agreed as well…..
