Wisbech residents and councillors call for ‘unavoidable potholes’
to be fixed to a ‘higher standard’

A resident fears that the “dangerous” potholes in Wisbech could be the root of accidents if something is not done about them soon.

Wisbech and the surrounding areas seem riddled with potholes, with some of the worst located on the town’s main roads, including Churchill Road, Lynn Road and Sutton/Wisbech Road (A1101) towards Long Sutton.

Wisbech Conservative councillor Steve Tierney said the Lib Dems at Cambs County Council do not prioritise roads or spend enough on them.
He said: “I tell them this regularly.

“I do not think I have ever had as many people contact me about the state of the highways as a councillor as I have in the last couple of months.

“I have never stopped banging on about the fact that we need more money and more focus on our highways, but unfortunately, the leadership at the county council does not seem to agree, as they never do it.

RG Note:- This should not be ‘political’ – the roads were just as bad when the conservative administration was in charge of Cambs CC – although I will add, they appears to be addressed and fixed in a more timely way back then.

The road conditions for Cambridgeshire were rated as amber, with green being the highest score for maintaining roads and red the lowest.

Cambridgeshire County Council has announced that this year it will be investing £73million in highways maintenance across the county, which is being used to repair roads as well as cycleways, footpaths and other highway assets as part of “ensuring safe travel is a key priority”.

RG Note:- £73M – Just not enough – but spend more on roads, means less somewhere else.
