New figures show even primary-age children in Cambridgeshire have been suspended from school for drug or alcohol abuse.
More than 150 under-18s in the county have been treated for addiction problems – including use of cannabis, cocaine and ecstasy, as well as solvents, alcohol and nicotine, the figures reveal.
The figures, obtained by the BBC Shared Data Unit, show there were 155 under-18s in treatment in both 2024-25 and 2023-24. And of those 155 in treatment, some 70 were aged 15 or under and five were aged 14 or under.
There were more than 16,000 under-18s in drug and alcohol treatment in England last year – up 13 per cent from 2023-24, according to Shared Data Unit analysis of National Drug Monitoring System statistics.
