Ralph Butcher Causeway – Kings Dyke Bridge – Delayed Again

Update 9th January:

Jones Bros, the contractors responsible for the remedial work at King’s Dyke, have provided an extremely disappointing update to the County Council.

Despite holding the contractor to account and applying the maximum possible pressure we can to conclude these works quickly, and to the quality and safety standards we expect, Jones Bros have told us the programme will be further delayed by a month.

The additional month is required, according to Jones Bros, because of a combination of both delivery and weather issues. They have made changes to their subcontractors to deliver the works more efficiently and to the standards expected. However, even with this change in their arrangements, they have stated that the cold weather has prevented the sprayed concrete works from restarting as had been expected. As a result, the work now isn’t expected to be completed until end of February.

This update clearly falls well short of our expectations, and we consider this news to be deeply disappointing.
We fully share the frustration of residents and road users alike.
We will continue to do everything we can to compel this work to be completed and the road re-opened as soon as possible, as safely as possible.

We will continue to provide progress updates, with the next one due on 21 January.

Comment from Cllr Mockett….

Pleased to be honest.
Better to keep it closed than open it and then close it again.
Issue here is when you put pressure on the contractor you get unreliable completion times. Until we really know 100% what the issues are and have been it’s hard to criticise them. What we should be focusing on is ensuring we don’t take ownership until we are certain all issues are resolved.
This has most likely been stipulated so leads to delays.
