Correspondence received yesterday from Cambs CC to a Whittlesey resident who has grave concerns of the ongoing costs of a Southern Relief Road.’
I replied the following….
Whilst the aspirations of a Southern Relief Road (SRR) are what some/most of the local
population is looking too, 99% do not understand the complexities of such a ‘wish’
I go back well over 12 years ago, when I was invited to the conservative club Whittlesey to meet with MP Barclay, he came around each table and sat for around 20 minutes, my (partner in crime) was no less than the infamous Peter Baxter.
MP Barclay told me when I questioned him about a bypass that it would require a housing plan of at least 8,000 to justify a business case – that was a long while ago, but is still part and parcel of what is relevant today.
Where would ‘we’ build should an estate – certainly not in the northern part of Whittlesey – so the only other area big enough would be South of the A605 Kings Dyke/Delph – boggy, peat land – on which to build a SRR…..sorry you’re not talking £100’s Millions – but a £Billion ++
Then there is what Cllr Boden is seeking – more funding for yet more consultants to justify the ongoing argument and justification for them for more never-ending arguments for justifying their costs.
Whittlesey residents could be asked to cough up twice, once through WTC funding and another through FDC, yes – the beneficiaries are the residents of Whittlesey and district…
