Local Election Information

There appears to be confusion and misinformation on social media.
I am only dealing with ‘Whittlesey’.
All registered voters should have had a ‘pink’ coloured card advising them of their:
(1) Ward area.
(2) Date of election (2nd May 2019)
(3) Number on the electoral register
(4) Whether registered as a postal voter
(5) Information on how to get help

Nominations for those who wished to stand – has closed and a full list of candidates for both District and Parish/Town Wards can be found on FDC’s website:-

https://www.fenland.gov.uk/MayElectionNotices

There are several Wards uncontested, which means those candidates who were nominated are automatically elected**
Wards which were uncontested for Fenland District Council.
Bassenhally Ward – 2 councillors elected uncontested.
St Andrews – 1 councillor elected uncontested.
Stonald Ward – 1 councillor elected uncontested.

Wards which were uncontested for Whittlesey Town Council.
St Andrews & St Mary’s North – 2 councillors elected uncontested.

Stonald Ward – 2 councillors elected uncontested

If you live in one of the above wards (uncontested) you will NOT receive a polling card.
In the case say for Bassenhally Ward, you will receive a polling card for the Whittlesey Town Council election 5 candidates for 4 available seats.

** A councillor becomes officially elected 4 days after the holding of elections.

I’ll go to one of my pet arguments, in that you the electorate have candidates – who would be councillors that have ‘NEVER‘ attended any council meetings, planning meetings or community meetings – they are standing on a ‘Political platform’ – the question to ask them is: – What have you done for Your community and Why do you want to become a ‘councillor’ – Why can they not be bothered to ‘see’ how councils work and the governance around councils…..
I do attend many meetings weekly and monthly, sometimes more than one a day and I have done so for many years – Reporting on this Web-Blog – Facts and Figures.
I do so at my own expense, time and commitment.
