Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
We confirm that we have made a revision to our long-standing ‘no-dog’ policy which took effect on 2nd May.
The policy has been revised to ensure we have a clearly understood policy that can be applied consistently by our members of staff. Customers with guide dogs and assistance dogs with training by ADUK accredited organizations will be allowed entry with their dogs; however, our ‘no-dog policy’ will apply otherwise. We believe that the certainty and clarity will be helpful to everyone involved.
The policy has been prompted by an increase in customers seeking to enter our premises with dogs they claim are assistance dogs. ID cards, harnesses and jackets that can be easily purchased online without the necessity to provide any information as to a dog’s training or a medical need do not prove a dog is a bona fide assistance dog. This has caused considerable uncertainty for our employees when applying our ‘no-dog’ policy.
Our pubs are extremely busy places. It is imperative that, in the interests of all concerned and in particularly for the health and safety of staff and customers, only trained dogs are allowed in our premises and, equally, that our employees can consistently apply a policy to ensure that this is the case.
Whilst we note your comments, we believe our approach constitutes a reasonable adjustment to our “no dogs” policy based on the circumstances outlined.
Many thanks,
