We (In Whittlesey) are paying £36 a year to the Mayor of the Combined Authority to subsidise public transport (busses) throughout Peterborough & Cambridgeshire.
In the just published all singing and dancing ‘new routes’ put on by The Tiger Bus Service.
No mention what-so-ever about Whittlesey/Coates/Eastrea/Turves/Pondersbridge….but a
great deal in the South of the County.
Most of these plans were probably formed under the previous Mayor and now signed off by the newly elected Mayor Mr. Bristow.
Only this morning I’ve been contacted by a lady who works in March and relies on the Whittlesey to March Bus Service, which as we all know is under review and probably will go come end August.
I am sorry at our level we can only lobby like everyone else….
The Mayoral Precept was introduced in 2023 to raise the funds to support buses across our region
The draft budget currently assumes that the Mayoral Precept is maintained at the current Band D equivalent level of £36.
Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough is seeking views on whether this should be maintained at £36 or increased by 4.99%, in line with the maximum increase available for upper tier transport authorities, to a Band D equivalent of £37.80.
This proposals is estimated to generate an additional £500,000 which will also be invested to enhance and improve bus services across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
