Yes folks it is nearing election time, County Councillors and Combined Authority Mayoral.
I’ve had a number (yes) asking why the illustrious Mr Elworthy (Ex Cambs Times/Cambs News) is not holding his normal accountability – Mr. ‘E ‘has gone into a partial retirement, so asked of me….
Well I’ve made my mind up – I will NOT be standing for election for any of the above – not my scene and have enough to do as it is, however I am happy to publish the latest communication from Cllr Chris Boden who I understand will be standing for re-election. (and any other candidate who would like me to look at their election material)
Like most electoral bumph that go through a letterbox, it takes all of about 5 seconds to reach the rubbish bin (mine included), however those of you that are somewhat interested in what candidates maybe promising (never promise anything you cannot deliver is my moto) –
Here we have a very seasoned campaigner both here in Whittlesey/Fenland/Cambridgeshire and London no less – putting out what my correspondent has called :-
Fact/Fiction/Fantasy and Some Spin, I enclosed happily my wrinkled copy below and let you – decide for yourseves. # Just on one point of ‘Potholes’ I’ll also enclose an article on the BBC national website re Cambridgeshire.
We also have to remember (I make no excuses what-so-ever) that the Conservatives ran the County Council for some 17 years (and put up Council Tax every year) prior to the latest Rainbow Alliance…

I do agree with Cllr Boden on one point, if Governement money has been allocated for the repair of Potholes, then thats what is should be used for…….
However, Lucy Nethsingha, leader of Cambridgeshire County Council and chair of the LGA’s Liberal Democrat group, said the amount of money was “nowhere near the amount that is needed”.
“The implication that we are not spending it well, is not helpful,” she said, adding that the government was announcing “stuff that was already announced several times over and that doesn’t help increase people’s faith in politics”.
“It’s not clear that there is extra money coming as a result of this announcement. There is extra red tape and I don’t think that’s going to be helpful,” she said.
She added in order to fix the roads in Cambridgeshire alone, the council had a shortfall £410m while the money the government was “re-announcing” for the whole of England was £500m.
“Our roads are like a worn out pair of trousers, you can keep fixing the holes, but what you actually need is a new pair of trousers – or in this case a proper resurfacing.”
