FDC’s Extraordinary & Cabinet Meeting 14th March 2025

This initial extraordinary meeting was to discuss the primary response to be given to the Government regarding most district councils being absorbed/amalgamated into ‘Unitary Authorities’ by 2028.

The main arguments being Fenland being a relatively small council in area and funding, would probably be absorbed and become a very minor player there-after and also the propsect of loosing their identity.

Peterborough is already a Unitary Authority and I’m sure we know the issues they have had over many years.

The YouTube© presentation of the main meeting was 1 hour 14 mins.
The Cabinet meeting following was less than 10 mins.

Somewhat disappointing (again) that by late Saturday only 75 people had viewed the YouTube© presentation….I fully understand that most people have better things to spend their time on, and can get the main facts from this website anyway.

There are and will be a lot of challenges on the way for our Officers and employee’s at FDC along with much work to be done by the leader and his cabinet to which I duly give credit for.
One ‘challenge’ being staff motivation and retention, knowing that their jobs ‘may’ be no longer by 2028.
Then there is the cost of all these changes, which will not be funded by the government, but down to the auuthorities themselves.

The alignment of services, the vast costs of Adult and Childrens Social Care….the list goes on….all whilst ‘we’ still have to function in supporting our residents and communities until the change over happens –

The questions being asked is in the document below and takes around 10 minutes to read.
The next stage will be even more important is scheduled for November 2025
