13 CPWs issued in a bid to tackle ASB in Peterborough city centre.
At the end of November, we updated you on the work that we have been doing to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) and issues in the city centre at night, particularly the issuing of Community Protection Warnings (CPWs).
The warnings are issued to people who have been identified as being responsible for persistent aggressive, violent, or anti-social behaviour, and will ban them from entering the city centre between 8pm and 6am for three months. They can be issued in addition to community resolutions, cautions and charges.
Anyone found to breach the CPW will then be issued with a Community Protection Notice (CPN), which details action they are required to take. Failure to comply with the CPN is an offence and could lead to a criminal prosecution and conviction.
Throughout December and January, we have issued a total of 13 CPWs to people, including:
👮♂️ A man in his 20s after he assaulted door staff at O’Neills by punching them, and then went on to try to bite them. He was arrested and had proceeded to shout racial slurs at our officer. Investigations into the matter are ongoing
👮♂️ A man in his 20s was reported to have sexually assaulted a woman in the city centre. He was arrested for sexual assault and bailed until the end of the month.
👮♂️ Two teenage boys who were caught up with by officers after they took part in a mass fight on Broadway. Investigations are ongoing.
👮♂️ A delivery driver – a man in his 50s – was observed acting suspiciously. Our response officers spoke to him and found a small amount of MDMA. He has been issued a caution.
We will continue to identify those causing issues and hand out warnings where appropriate.
