B1040 Thorney to Whittlesey Road to the South of the River Nene
Flooding is expected – immediate action required
Heavy rain fell over the River Nene catchment over the last few days, and a further pulse of rainfall was observed in the early hours of today, Thursday, 21st January over the already saturated catchment. The Whittlesey Wash flood storage reservoir is being operated to protect nearby communities from flooding. The rising levels in the Wash has resulted in flooding of the B1040 road. Whilst the Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority may close the B1040 for safety reasons. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media. This Flood Warning is expected to stay in force throughout this week until water levels recede. Please follow diversionary routes until the local authority re-open the road. We will be closely monitoring the situation.

Flooding is possible – be prepared
Over the last week we have seen heavy rainfall across the River Nene area, with a further pulse of rain last night, falling on an already saturated catchment. This means river levels will remain high today, Thursday, 21st January, and for the next few days, leading to continued flooding of low lying land and roads close to the river. We expect the river to remain high throughout today, and for the next few days. Flood Warnings remain in place at North Bank Road and the B1040. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. We are constantly monitoring river levels, and have staff in the field checking for blockages and clearing weedscreens.
