Today April 9th is the 50th anniversary of the stranding of the steamship ‘London Valour’
in Genoa Italy 1970
I represent the shipping company on many areas, created a website that has run for nearly 20 years and am the official historian of the company.
I organised the anniversary commemorations in Genoa 2010 when a group of 12 of us attended a very emotional day, with the British Ambassator + Consulate General joining us.
Unfortunately with the Corona Virus being what it is, we are unable to attend this 50th anniversary.
However I have been sent a very poignant photo of a deserted ‘Genoa’ with the Red Ensign (Red Duster) flying in the Marina Square.
The church bells all over Genoa rang in unison at mid-day.
(Note I was not on this ship when is ran aground – but sailed with some of the survivors,
I have been unfortunate to experience a similar incident in 1987 Quebec/St Lawrence River – I survived some did not – RG)
