Thank you for your email following Frank Jordans letter to Whittlesey Town Council regarding the lack of consultation with you on the Roadside Weeds Management Policy change.
We recognise the concerns and detrimental impacts the change in the policy has resulted in. On Friday 29 September, we sent out a short survey to all Town and Parish Councils asking for your feedback on the impacts of the policy change and how we can communicate and work better with you.
The survey results will be used to inform a review of the current policy ahead of next years weed growing season.
The Policy change whilst aimed to make a cost saving has also been driven by the need to reduce the carbon footprint of the highways service and support nature recovery by reducing the use of chemicals that are potentially damaging to the environment. The Policy change did not affect how we deal with poisonous and noxious weeds.
Where the current weed growth is causing a nuisance or hazard we will inspect and remove the weeds. Likewise area where flooding is a concern for the Parish. If locations of concern could be reported to us via our highways reporting tool.
Cambridgeshire County Council – ReportIt .
All the best.
