Saxongate Update – Medworth (Wisbech) Incinerator Monitoring.

Saxongate have written to regulators asking them to strengthen the proposed monitoring for the Medworth plant, the large energy-from-waste incinerator currently under construction in Wisbech.

Our new report Beyond the Models – Medworth Monitoring (copy attached) shows that while the remote air monitors will count particles, they do not currently include testing of what those particles contain or whether they build up in soil, crops, milk or meat. The project’s own assessment noted that food-chain uptake may be the more significant pathway, yet no long-term testing is planned.

We are calling for simple checks: set a baseline before the plant starts, test composition not just counts, and keep monitoring for the life of the plant, not just four years.

There is no indication that ash from Medworth will come to Whittlesey, but we believe robust monitoring of incineration risks can only strengthen our case and protecting crops from contamination is a matter for all of Fenland.

We welcome feedback on the report and hope it starts a constructive discussion on how monitoring can be improved if and when the plant operates.

Credit To Steve Barclay….

Not even Steve Barclay can ‘influence’ the somewhat snail-pace of the Environment Agency’ – that said, ‘we’ have a good communication system in place with lead group ‘Saxongate Residents Group’ and a very ‘few’ of us Councillors, with all the main stakeholders. At long last meetings with all and updates as to any progress.
We live in hope….

Neighborhood Police Priorities.

One of the priorities for our March neighbourhood team over the past few months has been anti-social behaviour in Whittlesey town centre – including drug dealing.

Thanks to your information and reports, the team have been busy acting on these, whether that be through numerous warrants or patrols in the area.

Please continue to report any concerns to us online, as this helps us to identify hotspot areas and inform the work we do. You can report here.

Whittlesey Rotary Disco Donates £1,000 to First Responders

Staying Alive: Whittlesey Rotary Disco Donates £1,000 to First Responders

The Rotary Club of Whittlesey marked its 71st Charter Night, the club’s birthday, with a 60s and 70s themed disco at the Falcon Hotel, bringing together music, food and dancing in a lively community celebration.

Around 70 guests enjoyed retro fun with hot food served 70s-style in baskets, plenty of dancing and even some in full disco gear. Entertainment came from singer Stacey Wood, DJ Groovy Michelle and young local dancers from Tu Danse Academy in Peterborough.

Fresh from their Rotary performance, Tu Danse went on the next day to take second place at the North/Midlands National Entertainment Awards at the Cresset Theatre in Peterborough, earning an invitation to the 2026 finals in Las Vegas.

The Charter Night disco was about more than music and dancing, with the Rotary Club donating £1,000 to support and raise awareness of the East of England Ambulance Service Community First Responders, volunteers trained to reach life-threatening emergencies in the vital minutes before an ambulance crew arrives.

Whittlesey Club president Kevin Buckland said the disco format showed Rotary’s ability to reinvent itself while staying true to its values. He added that supporting young people was central to Rotary’s mission and the club was delighted to showcase the talent of Tu Danse Academy on such a special night.

After such a successful night, the Rotary Club has confirmed the disco will be back next year, promising another evening of music, dancing and community support.

Todays Supporting Fenland Event….#1

Celebrating one year today, since its formation/amalgamation of several Cambridgeshire support groups, around 70 voltuntary organisations were represented.
Today my role as the Chairman of Whittlesey Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) I represented the group as I’ve done on a number of occasions.
Several other Whittlesey based Volunteer Groups were present, notably The Phoenix Youth Provision, who now support and help over 100 local young people.
They are well funded and have had their fair share of ‘challenges’ along the way.
Today Byrony Smith gave the audience a presentation on the success of the organisation.

Reapplying For A Postal Vote

Information on the Postal Vote Reapplication process.

More information can be found by visiting FDC’s Website Portal by
Clicking Here….

Following changes introduced by the Elections Act 2022, postal voters are now required to reapply for their postal vote every three years.

All postal voters who made their current application before 31 October 2023 are required to reapply for their postal vote by…..  31 January 2026.

If a new application is not received by this date the Electoral Registration Officer is required by law to cancel the postal vote and electors will have to vote in a polling station until a new postal vote application is received or if a proxy is appointed.

To vote in a polling station all electors are now required to bring in an accepted form of Voter ID on the day.

All those affected by this change will be contacted in the coming weeks explaining how to reapply. We will be sending an initial email to all electors we hold an email address for, which will be sent from elections@election.fenland.gov.uk

All other postal voters affected, for whom we do not hold an email, will receive a letter which will contain information on what to do next.

The quickest and easiest way to reapply is online at Apply for a postal vote.
