Census 2021 – Thank You

I’m sure that many ‘community champions’ have helped in some ways to support the Census 2021.
I supported around 20 to obtain either printed versions, braille support paperwork, and where asked helped them over the telephone to fill in their census forms.

Statement from Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor of Cambridgeshire & Peterborough

Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor of Cambridgeshire & Peterborough

I am hugely honoured and proud that I have won this election with ‘better politics’.
As I said throughout my election campaign, I want to present local politics, and run the Combined Authority, with compassion, cooperation and community for the benefit of a Greater Cambridgeshire.

The  political landscape of Cambridgeshire has shifted over the last 48hrs and this provides us with an opportunity. I am looking forward to working across all the political parties and with the County, City and District councils with a compassionate politics that puts Greater Cambridgeshire at the heart of our policy making.

We have huge opportunities ahead post pandemic with a focus on public health.
There is also great innovation across the region, strong support for businesses, an appetite for tackling climate change, a drive for a workable transport system and a mandate for building affordable, sustainable homes.
We can only do this by engaging and listening to the rich diverse experience of those communities across the region. I am certain that by doing so my agenda and policies will be built on the strength of cooperation, and we can get on and work for all.

Finally I would like to thank the outgoing Mayor, James Palmer for the role he has played in laying some of the foundations for the success of the region- he is passionate about Cambridgeshire and I wish him well.

Someone Asked – Updates #2 KD X

The ‘new’ Combined Authority Mayor for Cambridgeshire & Peterborough will be
Dr. Nik Johnson.

Some have asked me whether this will make any difference to the Kings Dyke Bridge project.

It is my underdstanding that the funds that the previous Mayor allocated are ‘ring fenced’ and can not be rescinded.
However should the scheme run over budget (there are no indications of this at present) – then it would be between Cambs CC/Mayor and the contractors.

For anything else which has not been already agreed upon and monies allocated, then all other ‘Wish Lists’ will have to be put to Mr Johnson and his team when they are up and running.

I have had up until now, no contact with Mr Johnson.
