Saxongate News Update

We’ve published a set of four key, evidence-based reports on Energy from Waste and incinerator bottom ash.

The work links local experience at Saxon Pit to wider national issues around how incinerator residues are processed, tested and regulated in practice. It draws on public data, regulatory frameworks and international practice, with direct expert input and an independent review.

The reports raise questions about whether current rules around incinerator bottom ash are robust enough in the long term, particularly where treatment is limited, testing is minimal and long-term tracking is weak.

The Environment Agency has confirmed that risks associated with incinerator bottom ash, including dioxins, PFAS and other persistent organic pollutants (POPs), are not tested for as part of the current monitoring regime at Saxon Pit. We are pressing the relevant authorities to explain why these long-term health risks are excluded from monitoring, particularly given the UK Health Security Agency report is due to be published imminently.
All four reports are freely available via UKWIN at the links below for anyone who wants to understand the issues in more depth.

This is about evidence, transparency and getting the safeguards right from the outset.

Roads Not Fit For Purpose

Credit to Cllr Barry Wainwright, who recently took 2 Cambs Highway Officers on ‘some’ of the poor state of our roads.
With yet another accident on the Wisbech Road/A605, (not knowing all the circumstances), happening in daylight. There are several sections of this road, which are what I would call dangerous, with little or poor signage.
When will someone take responsibility.

A man has been killed after a collision on the A605 at Whittlesey.

The 21-year-old man from March was a back seat passenger in a silver BMW X5 that left the A605 Wisbech Road, outside Coates, and crashed into a ditch at about 8.45am on Saturday (13 December).
