Cracks Appear On The Ralph Butcher Causeway
Prior to building, during the planning and after opening many ‘local’ long term residents questioned the suitability of where the ‘Bridge’ was built.
Question being the stability of the land – they, we, were always told all tests were carried out and there were no issues.
Shortly after building, the banking adjoining the Star Pit had to be re-enforced by several thousand tons of material.
We do see regularly engineers with equipment.
Hopefully the ‘cracks’ are superficial only.

Lane closed on road between Whittlesey and Peterborough after cracks appear on carriageway.
A lane on a main road between Whittlesey and Peterborough is set to be closed for at least a week after cracks appeared on the carriageway.
The westbound carriageway, (heading to Peterborough), on the Ralph Butcher Causeway at King’s Dyke has been temporarily closed by Cambridgeshire County Council.
A spokesperson for the council said: “One lane has been temporarily closed using two-way traffic lights, as a precaution, after some cracks have appeared on the edge of the road. This is in place while our contractor, Jones Bros, carry out some tests which will involve digging into the road.

What Does 6,000 Elephants A Year Equate To…..
Fenland refuse teams shift waste equivalent to more than 6,000
elephants a year
Fenland’s refuse service collected waste equivalent to more than 6,000 elephants in weight in the first 11 months of the last financial year.
The team collected 37,000 tonnes of domestic and commercial waste to the end of February, a report before Fenland’s full council at the end of last month said.
Garden waste and recycling accounted for more than 40 per cent of that – but we want to see even more going into blue bins.

Each year we enable at least one event in each of our four market towns.
These events bring vibrancy to our district for the benefit of residents and businesses.
At each event we welcome thousands of visitors to enjoy a wonderful array of food, entertainment and stalls. The footfall at these events is typically 3,000 to 5,000.
Our Four Seasons events are:
- March St George’s Festival in April on the Sunday closest to St George’s Day.
- Chatteris Midsummer Festival in June.
- Whittlesey Festival on the second Sunday in September.
- Wisbech Christmas Fayre on the second Sunday in December.
