More Volunteers – Needed ?

This is a request for winter volunteers for this winter season 2023-2024.

We would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all the volunteers that took part in our Community Gritting Scheme last winter.

For those hearing about the Community Gritting Scheme for the first time, this is a scheme where Local volunteers can help to keep their community moving in freezing weather. Under this scheme, the parish or town council decides on specific routes in their area which are important to the local community and agrees them with the county council.

If you are a parish or town council looking to join the scheme, please send your completed form by 31st October 2023.

I will need a form for each of your volunteers, including those who have volunteered before.  The form is required annually ensure our health and safety standards are being met.

See below for a link to the Community Gritting registration form:

If you spot a grit bin that is empty or running low, please let us know through our
online reporting tool

I look forward to hearing from you.

Reply From CCC Re Weed Control 2023

Thank you for your email following Frank Jordans letter to Whittlesey Town Council regarding the lack of consultation with you on the Roadside Weeds Management Policy change.

We recognise the concerns and detrimental impacts the change in the policy has resulted in. On Friday 29 September, we sent out a short survey to all Town and Parish Councils asking for your feedback on the impacts of the policy change and how we can communicate and work better with you.
The survey results will be used to inform a review of the current policy ahead of next years weed growing season.

The Policy change whilst aimed to make a cost saving has also been driven by the need to reduce the carbon footprint of the highways service and support nature recovery by reducing the use of chemicals that are potentially damaging to the environment. The Policy change did not affect how we deal with poisonous and noxious weeds.

Where the current weed growth is causing a nuisance or hazard we will inspect and remove the weeds. Likewise area where flooding is a concern for the Parish. If locations of concern could be reported to us via our highways reporting tool.

Cambridgeshire County Council – ReportIt .

All the best.
Jon

STOP Hate UK

https://www.stophateuk.org/report-hate-crime/

Our helpline is for anyone experiencing Hate Crime and discrimination, based on any aspect of an individual’s identity.
We encourage everyone to report incidents that they experience or witness. How to do it will vary depending on where you live because unfortunately Stop Hate UK is not funded to work in every part of the UK.
If there is an immediate threat to life or the crime is ongoing, you should call 999.
If Stop Hate UK is not working in your area, and you do not want to speak to the police at this stage, check what is available for you locally or nationally.
If you are below the age of 18, you can report it to Call Hate Out.
If English is not your first language, we will seek the help of a translator so you can still report what has happened.
What happens when I call the helpline?
Our helpline service is 100% confidential and independent.

  • You can expect to be responded to by one of our operators with training and experience in working with people affected by hate crime.
  • We will listen to you, believe you, and give you confidential and independent support throughout the process.
  • We will ask for personal details for demographic monitoring purposes. It is completely up to you to share them. No details will be shared with any third-party agencies.
  • We will log in details of the incident just as you describe it for our records. It will not be shared without your consent.
  • Where appropriate, in instances where we cannot give you expertise and specialised support, we will refer you to other local agencies that may be able to help you better.
  • We will never take anything to the police unless that is what you wish to do, in this case, Stop Hate UK will support you.
  • We will never pressure you to do anything. We give you as a caller the autonomy of choosing your way to deal with your experience.

Next Queen St Movie Evening

Whittlesey Movie Evenings
At Queen St Church – Saturdays,
fortnightly.

THE NEW WINTER SEASON IS HERE!!
Doors open 6.30 for 7pm start  – Sat. 21st October.

“What’s Love Got To Do With It”

Cert 12A – stars Lily James

(Comedy / Romance)

How do you find lasting love in today’s world? For documentary-maker and dating app addict Zoe (Lily James), swiping right has only delivered an endless stream of Mr. Wrongs to her eccentric mother Cath’s (Emma Thompson) dismay.
For Zoe’s childhood friend and neighbour Kaz (Shazad Latif), the answer is to follow his parents’ example and opt for an arranged (or “assisted”) marriage to a bright and beautiful bride from Pakistan.
As Zoe films his hopeful journey from London to Lahore to marry a stranger chosen by his parents, she begins to wonder if she might have something to learn from a profoundly different approach to finding love.

You are all invited to come along to our warm building for a top-class movie screening plus refreshments served during the interval.
No charges are made for admission, however we are fundraising to improve disability access and our appearance at the front entrance so all proceeds this winter are going towards this scheme and we ask that any donations you make are as generous as you can afford. Thank you!
