Manor Pool Access Steps

Dear Roy,

We have been in contact with the company carrying out repairs to the walk in pool steps, and the works needed to return the steps to a safe and acceptable standard are more complicated than originally anticipated.

We are due to receive the steps back on site in the middle of January, taking into account courier schedules with regards to Christmas and New Year closures and reduced operating hours.

We do apologise that this has taken so long to get sorted and thank all of our customers for their patience in this matter.

As one of the UK’s leading not-for-profit leisure trusts, Freedom Leisure is committed to delivering a first class leisure service to the community – improving lives through leisure.

Very Sucessful Few Months – Helping Whittlesey Community Pantry

At last nights meeting of The Whittlesey Community Focus Group (Teams) –
Ollie Foster informed us that last Sunday 96 residents used the ‘Community Pantry’

The group has been working hard this year to secure and refurbish a central Whittlesey venue, submit grant applications, and put all the policies, training and requirements in place to open a community pantry and fridge which is accessible to all.

It is based on the grounds of the Falcon Pub in Whittlesey and is initially open

Thursday’s 11am-12 noon and Sundays 5.30-6.30pm.

Helping Whittlesey has received support from several groups including environment and sustainability organisations PPS Independent Consultants and Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT), Fenland District Council, The Peoples Postcode Lottery and Jenner Healthcare. This joined up approach offers a valuable co-ordinated resource to the community.

All the food is free, and a voluntary donation can be given to help with running costs.
This is not a ‘Food Bank’ or ‘Food Aid’ – it is surplus food that is not sold and would normally be thrown away.

96 last Sunday – the word is out  Facebook

Film Night @ Queen Street Church

Whittlesey Movie Evenings At Queen St Church – Saturdays, fortnightly.

THE WINTER SEASON CONTINUES!! Doors open 6.30 for 7pm start.

Sat. 16th December

“About My Father

Stars Robert de Niro

Cert PG – Comedy

The hottest comic in America, Sebastian Maniscalco, joins forces with legendary Italian-American and two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro, in the new comedy

“About My Father.” The film centres around Sebastian (Maniscalco) who is encouraged by his fiancée (Leslie Bibb) to bring his immigrant hairdresser father Salvo (De Niro) to a weekend get-together with her super-rich and exceedingly eccentric family (Kim Cattrall, Anders Holm, Brett Dier, David Rasche).

The weekend develops into what can only be described as a culture clash, leaving Sebastian and Salvo to discover that the great thing about family is everything about family.

Co=Op Store for Coates Approved @ FDC Planning Today.

F/YR23/0134/F Erect single storey retail unit.
A presentation by the applicants agents Mr Mathew Wilkinson was made.
Cllr Bob Wicks as a member of the public/resident of Coates and a local Councillor made representation on concerns.

I will not labour into detail it will take far too long for those who are interested – can view the proceedings on FDC’s YouTube Channel Click Here
The Co-Op application starts at around 1 hr 37 mins into the meeting.

I made both my own and those who had contacted me – concerns on Highways.
I read all the objections to the application – many were not on planning reasons or grounds. Those who have concerns on the village shop – have the choice to carry on supporting their local village store – they don’t have to use this new store.

Bob Wicks made the point of speeding on the A605, which I picked up on and presented the committee with statistics from the (Motor Vehicle Activated Sign – MVAS) Highlighting that around 30% of all traffic who get themselves a speeding fine.
However – Cambridgeshire Highways have no objections or concerns.

Mr Mathew Wilkinson (Agent) listened to all the debate.
The store will operate with limited hours and deliveries will be also restricted.

I asked Mr Mathew Wilkinson, that the Lincs Co-Op would be a good neighbour to the community.
The application was granted on a unanimous vote.

(There were NO Planning reasons to refuse the application)

Update – Share Your Views On Police Funding Plans

The link was not working correctly – below is the link to tale part…..

https://forms.office.com/r/Qik10zqV5J.

This is YOUR opportunity to have YOUR say on next years Police Funding.

Nearly everyone wants more money (Fenland District Council NO increase in rates for 8 years are an exception).
No good complaining on social media – Have YOUR say.

Good afternoon all,

Police and Crime Commissioner, Darryl Preston has today (12th December) launched a short, online survey to ask you for your views on police funding for the coming year,

Around half (54%) of Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s funding comes from government with the remainder (46%) from the policing part of your council tax.

The Commissioner is keen to understand your views and has said that if the government announces a final police settlement that is better than anticipated, he’ll review what that means locally to help minimise any additional financial burden on residents.

Please take a moment to tell Darryl your views – your responses will help inform his final decision on how much he should raise the policing part of the council tax.

The technical difficulties have now been resolved – the new survey link has been included in the press release below and it is also here:

https://forms.office.com/r/Qik10zqV5Jand will be open until 17:00 on 2nd January 2024

If you would like a hard copy or would prefer to give your views by telephone, please call 0300 333 3456 or or email [email protected]

Darryl provides updates through a free monthly newsletter which you can sign up to here. The current Neighbourhood Alert account will close down on 20th December so if you would like to keep in touch, please sign up asap.

Cambs CC Proposes a 4.99% Increase In Council Rates

Very consistent whether it was a ‘conservative’ controlled council, or as now a ‘rainbow alliance’ of Libs/Independents/Labour – we are expecting the maximum allowed before a referendum is required…. there is a consultation for what’s it worth.
