RIP Sir Graham Bright

Sir Graham Bright was the first elected Police & Crime Commisioner for Cambridgeshire.
He sadly paased away on the 19th January.
I met Sir Graham on several occasions and found him very open and transparent.

He set the bar for future PCC’s none of whom I would say have reached that bar (yet).
His political career which spanned over 50 years, from his time as a councillor to being a member of parliament and subsequently police and crime commissioner between 2012 and 2016, I found that he welcomed everyones input and sought to encourage debate.
RIP

Fenland Police

Over the past 12 hours we’ve had more than 50 calls reporting fallen trees blocking roads across Cambridgeshire.

We’ve been working alongside partner agencies to clear the roads following the aftermath of storm Isha but please take care on the roads this morning.

I am NOT Getting at Dog Owners – I Was Told This Could Not Happen

I like dogs and cats and my two tortoises – one of the most complained about is Dog Poo left by irresponsible owners (Dogs need to Poo).

I asked Fenland Council Officers some time ago, whether matching a dog with its ‘DNA’ would ultimately stop this filthy habit – I was told no – and no one mentioned costs,
Fast forward….

France: Dogs face DNA testing in poo crackdown
Dog excrement found on the pavement will be collected and tested and the details will be sent to police. Those responsible for failing to pick up their pets’ poo will be forced to pay a €120 cleaning fee.
How is it the Frenchies can do it but not us….

Having updated my research (better things to do) I now find several councils and borough’s throughout the country are trialling the system.

Yes I know Fenland has a Dog Order and can fine owners ‘if’ caught.
But this seems a much better and robust way and bet it could finance itself.
or even a better idea…..

Flood Warning No Longer In Effect – However?

Flood Warning: B1040 Thorney to Whittlesey Road to the South of the River Nene
This is a message from the Environment Agency.

Flood Warning no longer in force: B1040 Thorney to Whittlesey Road to the South of the River Nene.
The situation is improving and no further flooding is expected in this area.

Even after the EA issue that there is no longer a warning in effect.
Cambridgeshire Highways need to carry out a safety check and clear the road of Rubbish/Trees/Shopping Trollies etc. Many motorists do no appreciate this needs to be done and get impatient.
CCC are on the case quickly after the EA’s announcement.

No New Speed Cameras Coming…

Our campaign to perhaps get funding to extend the average speed cameras to Coates/A605, after highlighting the appaulling statistics coming into Coates.

Yes the Police are trying occasionally to catch/educate those ‘speeders’

I wrote to the Peterborough & Cambridgeshire Road Safety Partnership who I understand are responsible for funding of Cameras….
Here is the reply…..Cameras have been too sucessful and not making enough money !!!!
