Ballygar, Ireland, 1967. A hard-knocks community in outer Dublin marches to its own beat, rooted in traditions of loyalty, faith and togetherness. There’s just one tantalising dream for the women of Ballygar to taste freedom and escape the gauntlet of domestic life: to win a pilgrimage to the sacred French town of Lourdes. And with a little benevolent interference from their cheeky and rebellious priest, close friends Lily, Eileen, Dolly and Sheila are the ‘lucky’ few to win this ticket of a lifetime at their riotous local raffle night.

You are all invited to come along to our cosy, warm building for a top-class movie screening plus refreshments served during the interval.

No charges are made for admission but donations are welcomed to offset our operating expenses.

Thank you!

Planning Is Complicated and Complex And Weighted By Government.

There is nothing wrong with good planning, like most Councils (FDC) have a robust planning strategy and ‘A Local Plan’ which sets forth the requirements for an area.
We (FDC) are still working to the 2014 Local Plan, however the next one is being actively worked on. I am not stating right or wrong, but the Government weighes very heavily in favour of a developer, not taking into account for example Doctors & Dentists.

Article in CambsNews regarding where an appeal came back infavour of a developer.
Fenland Council faces legal bill for ‘unreasonable behaviour’ in failed bid to block 110 homes.   Click Here To Read Article

When you read the article and see some of the photographic evidence, the Planning Inspectorate did not deem these concerns of weight to refuse the application.
I am not stating the Inspector is/was wrong – purely highlighing the difficulties faced by Planning Committees

RG Note : – I was not a member of the Planning Committee when this application was presented and determined.

Update Planning Application Market Street Whittlesey

For information – Without prejudice.
Cllr Roy Gerstner is a member of Fenland District Councils Planning Committee and publishes this article for information only to the general public and electorate.

Please visit FDC’s Planning Portal @ Click Here

There are updates – The one from the Conservation Officer is of interest.

If you wish to object to this development it must be on ‘Planning Reasons’, Car Parking availability in Town Centres are not normally considered as ‘The Government’ believes people who live in Town Centres have no cars? and therefor do not need a parking space.

The issues with Doctors and Dentists are again, not reasons for refusing an application.
Only School places are material in planning, and the Government/County Council have to supply enough school places -.

More Assistance For Rough Sleepers….

You may ‘think’ our small(ish) town has no rough sleepers – well sorry at the last count we had at least 4. They have previously been contacted by FDC, however my understnading is that they are rather reluctant to ‘move’ to Wisbech?

Almost Guaranteed Increases In Police Precept

Year on Year we can ‘expect’ our ‘tax’ on the Police Precept to increase.

The policing element of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough council tax bills will rise in April.
The increase of £12.96 per year, proposed by police and crime commissioner Darryl Preston, means that households in band D properties will pay £285.48, up from £272.52.

The new precept was accepted by the Cambridgeshire Police and Crime Panel, populated by councillors from across the region, at a meeting yesterday (Wednesday).
Amazingly a very poor turnout by Councillors who could ‘question’ this increase.

It was accepted effectively by default as the panel was told there weren’t enough members in the room to exercise their collective veto powers.

Darryl Preston the PCC – about the only time you’ll see him smile -?

I was at a meeting last year when he had great difficulty in ‘engaging’ with the normal public.
