Flood Warning In Effect

Flood warning for North Bank Road alongside the River Nene, east of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice.

Heavy rain is currently falling in the Peterborough area which is causing the River levels to rise on the River Nene. During periods of high tide the River Nene will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions.
This is likely to lead to localised flooding of the North Bank Road, between Peterborough and Rings End.
Whilst this Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority will close North Bank Road. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media.

Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. We are closely monitoring the situation and this message will be updated by 17:00 on 10/02/24, or before, if the situation changes.

Flood warning area: North Bank Road alongside the River Nene to the east of Peterborough and the West of the Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice.

More Planning Complexities. Remember – Supermarketgate!

Without prejudice.

At my first meeting as a member of FDC’s Planning Committee (26¦07¦23), an  application by Aldi for a store off Hostmoor Avenue March (opposite Tesco).

The application was approved.

Store wars: Tesco set to make legal challenge over new Aldi store planned for March. (article from Fenland Citizen©) Click Here

(Does this sound familiar/ supermarketgate in Whittlesey).

New budget supermarket for March could be delayed following news that a rival brand has launched a legal challenge against it.
Planning permission was granted to Aldi to build a new store on Hostmoor Avenue in July last year, despite objections from rival Tesco to the proposal.

At that time councillors decided “shoppers would decide with their feet” once the store was up and running to determine whether or not it was wanted.

In December Aldi announced it was hoping to have the store open in March this year and with it the creation of up to 50 jobs.
——————————————————————————————————
Some 10 years ago a battle of supermarkets (Sainburys & Tesco) in Whittlesey, known as Supermarketgate carried on for some considerable time – ALL covered here on the web-blog if you remember.

In the end neither Sainsbury’s or Tesco fulfilled their promise, one claiming ‘market forces had changed. It was Aldi who eventually built and opened 2023

I copy the text from one of my posts – April 2015 Tesco to Gift £10,000

At last nights town council meeting, it was unanimous by all who attended that this ‘gift’ from Tesco to both Chatteris and Whittlesey for the inconvenience caused by their planning applications (Sweetener by anyone else’s language), be administered by the town council itself.
The Cambs Times tried to involve in moderating the granting/allocation of would be applicants. I and I dare say the majority of Whittlesey electorate hope that this ‘Gifted Money’ is treated by the Finance & Policy committee of WTC like any other requests for money.
Many organisations within Whittlesey are looked after by WTC in small grants, providing they make a case for such support, this money should be treated no differently.
(RG posting)

These are the facts – how people interpret is up to them..!

NHW Close Liaison With Our Neighbourhood Police

Our NHW friends in Peterborough (a very large group) Chaired by Ex Whittlesey PC Alan Paul.
Yesterday morning,Peterborough Neighbourhood Officers met up with Alan and went on a walk around Woodston and Fletton. During this walk, we went into the local corner shops and discussed ‘ATM watch’, which is an initiative led by Neighbourhood Watch and supported by us around reporting suspicious activity with ATMs in the area, and to prevent ram-raids.

When walking through Fletton Fields, we noticed and reported graffiti tags that were popping up.
Our walk ended with chatting to some lovely residents and children who were enjoying the park and outside areas!
All in all, it was a positive meeting where we were able to talk about the ways that we can work together to tackle the issues brought to our attention by the community.

If you have any concerns, you can highlight them to us by filling out our community survey 👉 https://orlo.uk/community_survey_KvrQK#NPTsouth

Our Whittlesey NHW Group consists of some 35 Co-ordinators along with some 400+ who are getting regular updates from the Police via e-cops.

We have an excellent website – https://www.whittleseynhw.org.uk/en/
Lots and lots of information and advice.

FDC Planning Committee 07th February

At the end of the meeting Committee chairman Cllr David Connor, wished Head of Planning Nick Harding a good semi-retirement and thanked him for his work at FDC.

As is usual at planning meetings, some difficult decisions on planning applications,
A good result for a Whittlesey Business wishing to expand and moved out of the small industrial area of town. |The Pidcock Farm| F/YR23/0438/F application was well debated and was approved by the Planning Committee.

(I gave my apologies for this meeting – however I sent to the Chair my views)
