KD X Update From CCC

Please find this week’s update below –

A message from Cllr Steve Count, Leader of Cambridgeshire County Council, said:

Since our last update from Cllr Boden, the abutment walls for the underpass have been completed (pictured right), with the bridge beams for the structure being delivered and installed next week.
The filling of a section of Star Pit continues (pictured left), with Jones Bros using long-reach machinery to transfer materials into the quarry. Star Pit is being filled to allow the road to be constructed on top.

I hope you saw our response to the messages from the last update, but we listened to your concerns and made changes. The recent flooding on the B1040 has washed away a section of the embankment near the Dog-in Doublet bridge, this has resulted in emergency work being needed involving two-way traffic lights. These will remain in place until the bank is repaired. We postponed some King’s Dyke work while separate temporary traffic lights were in place relating to the A605 Milk and Water Drove by Peterborough City Council. These lights have since been removed.

Therefore, the planned King’s Dyke work to build a temporary access road will start on Monday (8 March) for a week and will be off-peak from 9.30am to 3.30pm to minimise disruption as far as possible. There will be no traffic management restrictions on the A605 at the works site during peak hours. The team will also be manually controlling the traffic lights so they can adjust the lights as needed depending on the traffic and the level crossing.

Thank you for your patience while we carry out the work for this much needed project. The traffic lights on the A605 are short-term, the team will be monitoring the situation and will carry out the work as quickly as they can.

Steve

Beware Dognapping is on the Increase…..

We are urging members of the public to remain alert and to look out for suspicious activity following a national rise in dog thefts and a number of attempted burglaries across the north of Cambridgeshire.

Between 16 and 23 February, there were several reports of attempted burglaries and concerns around these being a precursor to dog thefts.

DC Craig Trevor said: “Nationally there has been an increase in reports of dog thefts, however we have been made aware of incidents and concerns regarding potential attempted dog thefts across north Cambridgeshire, in particular the Thorney and Whittlesey areas.

“I would urge residents across the whole county to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to us. Social media can be a great platform for providing information but it is extremely important this information is passed to us and not just shared on the internet.

“At least five reports have included seeing a blue Audi A3 in the area of the attempted burglaries and suspicious activity, therefore I would ask members of the public to be on the lookout and report any concerns to us.”

Nene-Bower Pollution Update 081200z

Several concerned residents have walked ‘our’ part of the river and report that there is still some samll amounts of what appears to be ‘fat or oil’.
I understand that the Environment Agency were out yesterday and cleaned up some of the problem.
However Cllr Chris Harper (Stanground South) is not a happy man with the EA.

Looks Like Someone Else Has Issues With EA

After being reported to me yesterday afternoon – Oil/Paint floating down the River Nene and Bower, I informed our River Baliff and he was on the scene within minutes.
By the time it had reached Whittlesey and lot of it had broken up and I understand there was little concern at this stage.
See below – what Cllr Chris Harper (Stanground South) has commented.
Post received from a correspondent…

River Polluted….Stanground River Nene – Into Bower

Reported late this morning @ Stanground and to me at 15:00 of ‘a lot of what appears to be Oil and Paint’ that has been dumped into the river.
Authorities have been notified.

Cllr Chris Harper (Peterborough Stanground South)

Urgent River Pollution Warning – Park Farm.

Update, and it’s not good news I’m afraid. The source of the flytip has been found at the bottom of Havelock Drive. Surely someone saw or knows who was responsible for this callous assault on our environment? Who’s just cleared their garage or shed out?

Original Post – Awful news this morning of what appears to be oil and paint tins dumped in the river at the rear of Park Farm between Havelock Drive and Kedleston Road.

No Holidays – So Where Did We Go #8

As has been chronicled previously I was employed by The Disney Group in the US for 5 years, prior to retiring. Working in both the Parks and Cruise Ships, the big bonus was that my wife Connie could join me during her holidays.
A free VIP (not quite the VVIP) Card allowed us some fantastic benifits – All Free.
So many holidays were enjoyed in the US and several in Florida.
