A605 Whittlesey Road/Milk and Water Drove Junction to be improved as £5M works set to start in the Autumn.
What could only be described as our most ambitious pledge and one that you’ll recall has always been in our newsletters and local election material, was to have the A605 Whittlesey Road/Milk and Water Drove road junction upgraded to improve this major traffic pinch point for motorists travelling into and out of our city.
I along with my ward colleagues Cllr Rush and Cllr Bisby pledged to do everything possible to deliver this much needed road improvement scheme.
We relentlessly lobbied Peterborough City Council and the Combined Authority to firstly have the junction included in Peterborough’s 5 year road improvement plan and then secure the funding to make it happen.
I am therefore delighted to be able announce that we are about to deliver on that pledge with the first stage of work scheduled to begin on the 21st September clearing the grass bank side, siting the contractors buildings and installing a temporary road. This will though mean a closure of Milk & Water Drove at the Whittlesey Road end for a period of up to 3 weeks whilst this first stage is carried out.
The main work to widen the road and alter the junction layout is scheduled to begin in October and last for up to a year.
Clear drawings and artist impressions of the new scheme have been requested along with a more detailed timeline and I’ll share those with you as soon as I receive them.
Letters should be going out shortly to residents and businesses most likely to be affected by the works.
I fully appreciate this will cause delays and inconvenience at times but it will I’m sure be worth it in the end and I thought you should hear about this really positive news as soon as possible and by giving you the heads up now, hopefully you can prepare for the road works and closures starting in just a couple of weeks time.
More as I get it.
