I have made further investigations and been to a stretch that covers from Brigate West to the Ashline Locks.
The first part, there is very little surface oil/residue showing but by the time it reaches the part by Grove House the oil is much more visible, further along the oil can be seen to cover about ¾ width of the Bower. The river is flowing through the side sluice and will then head towards the sea.
There was (2) resident swans 50 metres from the Locks and appeared OK, I could see no staining on their feathers, I understand the RSPCA have been informed… why not RSPB I don’t know. I have asked if Cllr Harper could inform us of their situation and whether any more oils/pollutants are on there way.
