New Queen Street Surgery – Update

From 15th June members of the public must wear a face covering at all times on public transport or when attending a hospital as a visitor or outpatient. The public is further advised “If you can, you should also wear a face covering in other enclosed public spaces where social distancing isn’t possible and where you will come into contact with people you do not normally meet. This is most relevant for short periods indoors in crowded areas.”

Given this, we will require all members of the public to wear a face covering whilst in our buildings with effect from Weds 17th June until further notice.
The aim of this is to minimise the dispersal of respiratory secretions, reduce both direct transmission risk and environmental contamination.

Key Points

1.      Patients will be expected to provide their own face covering.

2.      In emergencies, our sites can provide a Type 2 facemask but this must be in emergency situations only

3.      In line with national guidance the following exceptions can be applied

a.      Children under the age of 3

b.      Patients unable to put on or wear a face covering because of any physical or mental illness or impairment, or disability

c.       Patients with breathing difficulties and respiratory problems that may be exacerbated by wearing a face covering

d.      Anyone with anatomical difficulties that would make wearing a face covering impossible or painful e.g. facial injuries

e.      Anyone who experiences severe discomfort or distress while wearing a face covering e.g. those with severe claustrophobia

f.        A face mask should not be worn by patients if there is potential for their clinical care to be compromised (for example, when receiving oxygen therapy via a mask)
