HealthWatch News

It’s been a busy few months since our last newsletter. In July we welcomed our new Chair, Jonathan Jelley MBE JP, published our Annual Report 24-25 highlighting a selection of the real difference your voices have made to health and care services locally, and launched our brand-new mental health survey for young people (we’ve had nearly 100 responses already!). We’ve also launched our new online Impact pages to help show how your feedback is making a difference. We’re also busy getting ready behind the scenes to host our Annual Summit: Mental Health – Closing the Gaps.
The summer has also been a challenging time too. As many of you will be aware, in June the Government announced plans to close Healthwatch.
This unexpected news is deeply concerning and while we are still awaiting the outcome of proposed changes to the Health and Social Care Act currently before Parliament, it is becoming increasingly clear that the local Healthwatch network will close as part of national reforms.

As we receive more information about this, you can stay up to date via our website which is also where you will find the latest statement from our CEO, Jess Slater: Read our statement. Please rest assured that while we await confirmed timescales, as your local Healthwatch we will continue to ensure your voices are heard by those responsible for health and social care locally.

Our impact at a glance…

  • Since 1st April we’ve received 728 individual pieces of feedback from you about your experiences of health and social care.
  • From 1st April to 31st July, we’ve signposted 297 people to information and support, providing help over the phone or online.
  • We’ve published our Annual Report.
  • We’ve published a new Enter and View report: Alan Hudson Treatment Centre.
  • We published findings from our patient data survey which we ran over the spring. You can read it here: Sharing Patient Data.

We’ve been finding out from Cambridge University Hospitals about how our 2022 report, ‘The future of urgent and emergency care at Addenbrooke’s Hospital’ has helped shape current work in acute care re-design: Listening to Local Voices.

  • Together with University Centre Peterborough, our Youthwatch team has created a new video aimed at supporting young people to quit vaping. You can watch it here.

Stay up to date with how your feedback is making a difference with our new Impact pages: Our Impact | Healthwatch Peterborough Our Impact | Healthwatch Cambridgeshire

Our Annual Summit event, held on Wednesday 8th October 2025 at the Delta Marriott Hotel, Huntingdon, will place mental health firmly under the microscope. Hear from mental health services and people with lived experiences as we discuss what is working well and what needs improvement. Find out more and read the agenda.

Another Week and More Tickets Issued

We have been back on patrols in response to your complaints about illegal parking on the marketplace in Whittlesey and near to Chatteris town centre.

Six tickets were issued this time to those found to be parked on the pavement or on double yellow lines.

There are plenty of places for you to park where you won’t return to a ticket from us waiting on your windscreen, even if it means being a bit further from your destination.

Illegal parking across the sector is a current priority for the team. You can read about their other priorities and the work being done on our website.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Local Nature Recovery Strategy

Overview

Welcome to the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Local Nature Recovery Strategy consultation survey

https://yourvoice.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/lnrs/consultation/

We are pleased to announce that the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) consultation is live from 18 July to 11 September 2025. This is your chance to review our Local Nature Recovery Strategy documentation and local habitat map with opportunities for creating and enhancing nature within the region.

Most of the survey questions are optional and the survey should take around 10 – 20 minutes to complete depending on the amount of information you wish to share.

Why your views matter

The Local Nature Recovery Strategy describes our most precious habitats, animals and plants in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Our plan is to make these places bigger, better managed and more joined up to promote nature recovery.

The strategy sets out actions to take for nature recovery. It also shows places that we think have the best opportunity to do this.

Part 1 of the document reminds us why nature is so important to our lives. It shows some of big challenges that our natural environment faces. It also shows the opportunities for action. Nature recovery can deliver wide benefits, such as water and air quality, or reducing flood risk.

Part 2 sets out the actions (also referred to as measures) we are suggesting for our most important habitats and species. Some actions cannot be mapped but are still important.

The Summary document provides a high-level summary of Part 1 and Part 2 above.

Supporting documents set out the methodology, process taken to develop the LNRS, and other supporting information you may find helpful.

We suggest reading the strategy first, and you can find all the relevant documentation at the bottom of this page. However, if you want you can go straight to what the strategy is recommending near you by looking at the Local Habitat Map – this will open a new webpage. The map shows existing areas important for nature. It also takes the actions and shows where they could apply. The map has different layers that you can turn on or off – easy instructions are provided on the webpage.

We’d love to hear your comments on both this document and the map. We want to hear about whether we have got the right plants, animals and habitats. We want to hear about the actions we suggest, and if we have shown all the right areas.

Once live, you can leave your comments via the ‘Online Survey’ link below. You don’t have to leave a comment on every question – just skip to those that you want to. You can also leave a comment on the map pages.

Cops Target Repeat Offenders

A new policing team to target some of the most prolific offenders in Fenland and Peterborough has made 25 arrests in its first month.

The Spree Offender Team was launched in July with the aim of apprehending persistent offenders and preventing further crimes taking place.

The team will target perpetrators of high-volume crimes such as thefts from shops, non-dwelling burglaries, cycle crime and thefts from vehicles.

The 25 arrests have led to 91 charges, with some offenders already receiving custodial sentences.

Of the thefts, the value of items stolen was more than £9,000.

They will work closely with partners including the local authority and probation services, as well as engaging with local businesses.

You can read more about the team on our website.

Kind regards
