I understand that Cllr Nawaz is fuelling popularist debate about ‘Flying Flags’ on social media. Remember however it was this same Councillor – who wanted to install 2 very large flagpoles (£4,000+) outside Whittlesey Town Council Offices, the same Councillor returned with a second quotation of (£2,200).
I was tasked with the project and as I have published before had the present (and in keeping with the area and not distracting from the war memorial) for a total of £250 for the ‘Pole/Flag/Installation.
Cllr Nawaz has a habit of whipping up popularist debate in his policical ambitions/aspirations.
Be careful in what you read……

I/we are proud to fly our large Union Flag on special occasions.

Today (Thursday 28th August) @ Whittlesey War Memorial.
The RBL proudly fly the Union Flag from their Flagpole (Planning by ex Cllr Ken Mayor)

Why we (Whittlesey & Villages) do not have any Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) in place for anti-social behaviour, simple, we do not suffer the same ‘extent’ of issues where there has been a PSPO in Wisbech for some time, and is out for renewal/consultation.
Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) was imposed by Fenland District Council to install gates restricting public access to the alleyway between Norfolk Street and West Street in Wisbech after finding people urinating and defecating along a Wisbech alleyway.
It gives the council and police greater powers to tackle the behaviour, with anyone failing to comply with the order facing a fixed penalty notice or a fine of up to £1,000.
PSPOs can last for a maximum of three years, after which time they can be renewed or varied if still deemed necessary.
The Norfolk Street/West Street PSPO was first introduced in July 2023 and is due to expire in July 2026. Before it is renewed, the council would like the public’s view on whether they support its renewal or not.
People can have their say by completing an online survey at
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/wisbechPSPOrenewal,
which is open until 11.59pm on Sunday, September 14.

Regulators have said they do not want to see a formal application to create the new Fens Reservoir submitted later than March 2027.
The proposed reservoir is planned for completion by 2036, if it gets permission to go ahead.
The scheme has been designated as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP). This means a final decision on whether it can go ahead will be made by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

(Note Whittlesey Councillor Elisabeth Sennitt Clough and residents along Station Road, have been very pro-active in getting the Police to address these concerns.
Whittlesey NHW also made representation to the local Sergeant)
