News From One of our Neighbours

Earlier this morning neighbourhood officers in Chatteris came across a horse who had decided he fancied a bit of a change of scenery.
Sadly the middle of West Street wasn’t a suitable place for him.
Officers got him to safety and managed to track down his owner who along with the officers managed to get him back home.
Officers made sure the horse had a suitable home, was well looked after, and even helped give him some breakfast.
Let’s hope he learnt his lesson that the grass isn’t always greener! #fenlandNPT #PC0233 #PC0312 #whythelongface?

MN @ War

As many know I was an Electronics & Communications Engineer for 27 years in the British Merchant Navy…. There were many local men here in Whittlesey who served in Two World Wars and other conflicts…. I was involved in (No World Wars) several conflicts around the world, mainly in a humanatarian role, although I was involved in taking Jet Fuel for the Kosovo conflict.

BBC One News 6 & 10pm – Week beginning Monday 31st August
Coverage of WWII & the men & women involved Merchant Navy in World War II
on Tuesday 1st September

As a supplement to BBC1’s two main news reports at 18:00hrs & 22:00hrs, next week, there will be coverage of WWII and the men & women involved, including the Merchant Navy.

They plan to transmit a piece about the Merchant Navy in the main news at 6.00pm and 10.00pm on Tuesday 1st September.
This will focus on Milag Nord (the MN camp near Bremen), where newscaster Hugh Edwards’s father was held and hopefully will include an interview with our National Secretary, David Parsons, covering the MN’s contribution to WWII in more general terms.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) roundup
27 August 2020

Hello – welcome to today’s edition of the coronavirus (COVID-19) roundup, a summary of our latest analysis related to the pandemic.

Today we’ve added estimates of international travel up to June 2020, as well as the latest indicators of the economic impact of COVID-19. Some of the main points include:

  • Home Office statistics show that there were an estimated 1.3 million passenger arrivals (including returning UK residents) in April to June 2020; this is 97% (27.7 million) fewer than the same period in 2019
  • The number of applications for visitor visas in Quarter 2 (Apr to June) 2020 was 99% lower than in the same period in 2019
  • More than half of the workforce in the arts, entertainment and leisure industry (51%) are still furloughed, compared with 13% of staff currently furloughed in the workforce as a whole
  • When asked about insolvency, almost a quarter of arts and entertainment businesses (23%) reported the risks as severe to moderate; this is the joint-highest proportion of any industry, along with the hospitality sector

All Is Not What It Seems….Communication is The Key

So consternation this morning Buzz-Buzz-Buzz – reports of Fly-Tipping on the corner of Braemar Gardens/Ramsey Road – Social Media Hot (so I understand) On my way to a funeral – took picture…. After funeral called in at WTC Office and Clerk already aware and informs the Street Scene Officer……
An hour later on my way back – All gone – spoke with a neighbour who informs that The Gent responsible had new furniture delivered and could not get the old stuff taken away immediately – so dumped on the little green.

1/ Why not pile it up a bit more tidier rather than lumped in the middle of the green.
2/ Why not inform the Town Council – Clerk, that arrangements have been made to take away…..
This would have saved a lot of phone calls and reports to FDC Fly-Tipping Team….
Simple one phone call would have solved all the time wasted…
