The Worst-Case Scenario – KD Bridge/Ralph Butcher Causeway

We are talking about an 80 metre bridge – not 800 not 8km – 80 metres – what a total embarrassment £32 Million +++ (unknown)

Plagued with problems from the very beginning, I feel sorry for those including many of us who promoted the idea of the crossing for so, so long.

Will the worse case scenario be the complete rebuilding of the bridge, if so who pays,
my blog last week showed a temporary bridge across the railway line – I thought it was a funny idea – which may now have to come to reality.

With the imminent’ closure of the crossing itself – upgrading of the signalling system, unless that can be delayed and the railway crossing remaining useable (lots of issues)
Who knows…….
Someone said there was some sort of petition going on Social Media – sorry first I’ve heard of it….

Could this be the answer to all our problems – Get (Dads) Army in…

Controversial Planning Applications #1

F/YR23/0245/O | Erect up to 175 x dwellings (outline application with matters committed in respect of access) | Land South Of 250 Drybread Road Whittlesey Cambridgeshire.
View the Documents (227 documents including public comments) by Clicking Here

This is an outline application (more or less the starting point of the project.

I understand there has been quite a lot of ‘Social Media’ around the applications and some Councillors encouraging contact with the Fenlands Planning Committee member Cllr Elisabeth Sennitt Clough – who lives in the other application area.
All of those who sit on the Planning Committee are supposed to be not pre-determined and Cllr Sennitt Clough has made this known.

This and the other application are ‘wrong’ – FDC Planning Officers have recommended ‘To Approve’ – this is going against The Whittlesey Local Plan – which took a number of years and cost £Thousands to impliment / passed through all the governement agencies.
Now we find that it means very little.

Just one comment NHS CAMBRIDGESHIRE AND PETERBOROUGH ICB
The proposed development is likely to have an impact on the services of the 2 x
GP Practices operating within the vicinity of the application and this is within the development: Jenner Healthcare and Lakeside Healthcare, New Queen Street Surgery.

These practices have a combined registered patient list size of 36,790 and this development of 175 dwellings would see an increase patient pressure of circa 403 new residents which would require additional GP/Nurse / (Admin support) workforce to support increase in appointments : GP = 0.20 / Nurse = 0.14 and Admin = 0.39 with a resulting increase on estate demand of27.60 sqm net internal area.

Below was the original information that the applicant put out, this may have changed.

The Fenlander News # 1

Town centre overhaul nears completion, penalties for fly-tippers rise and entrepreneurs offered funding

It’s an exciting time in Fenland as completion of the major multi-million pound once-in-a-generation overhaul of March town centre nears completion.

The March town centre regeneration enhances and elevates the town centre environment. In the spirit of promoting a positive environment in Fenland, this month the district council’s cabinet agreed tougher penalties for people who fly-tip or litter

Another project intended to improve the area, is the grant funding available to entrepreneurs creating new businesses, employment and prospects in Fenland.

All this and much more is covered below in this month’s The Fenlander. Don’t miss the various opportunities to feed into current consultations and help shape future plans for services and infrastructure.

March town centre regeneration enters final phase

An ambitious, multi-million pound scheme to support and revitalise March town centre is nearing completion, with works due to be complete by the end of October.

More than £8.4million has been invested to help the town adapt to the changing retail environment and meet the needs of current and future generations as the town continues to grow.

The once-in-a-generation scheme has included the revamp of March Market Place, riverside enhancement works, improvement grants for businesses and the major transformation of Broad Street to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and create a more open, social, and pedestrian-friendly town centre.

More Saxongate Update

Saxongate help uncover the cause of the recent Snoots Road odour issue.
Saxongate would like to thank members for their accurate and honest reporting of the horrendous odour issues which started last Thursday.

The smell was particularly bad at the A605 (Peterborough Road) end of Snoots Road and was at times even apparent in Stonald Road.

The odour returned again yesterday (7th Oct) and, thankfully, one of the Fenland District Health’s Environmental team, has responded and appears to have identified the issue.

If they are correct the offending works fall under an Environmental Agency (EA) permit. Frustratingly we therefore now have to wait for the EA to respond to the new information before we can say any more on the matter. Assuming our information is correct it does appear the issue will be temporary (to a degree) and that with better thought and planning around weather and wind direction more can be done to protect the amenity and well-being of local residents, as should be the case anyway with permit and planning regulated works.

It is disappointing that the EA have not responded to any of the reports Saxongate have sent them. At least someone at Fenland District Health’s Environmental team took the trouble to come out and respond to local residents’ issues and pleas for help.

The usual  small print, how to raise complaints and a help request:-
