Fenland burglary update and advice [#77014527]

For those of you who might have missed it last week, we released footage from video doorbells which captured the moments 44-year-old Kennie Owen tried to let himself into 15 homes in an area of Peterborough one night last year –
footage can be watched here

Why are we showing you it again?

Well for two reasons…

First of all, we know it sounds so simple, and we often say this, but locking your doors really does help prevent burglaries! Unfortunately not in all instances, but for those like Kennie Owen who are chancing their luck and hoping they can sneak in through an unlocked door – all he came away with from that night was a three-year prison sentence.

Secondly, the power of sharing information with us and your neighbours can’t be underestimated.
We got wind that footage was being shared on social media as a ‘heads up’ to other residents in the area, which then prompted other people to check their video doorbell footage, and contact us!

Last year there were 134 dwelling burglaries across Fenland, 19.6% more than the previous year.

A plea from us – if you see anything suspicious on your cameras, please do let us know. While someone may not have broken into your home, your camera may be the one that captures the culprit who has managed to get into someone else’s, or like this night – was trying to get into many homes.

This footage has already been shared quite a lot, but please continue to spread the word.
