Today Saturday 03rd September Is Merchant Navy Day.

Most people in a rural/land base area are not interested or aware of the significance of ‘Merchant Navy Day’ –

There were a ‘few’ Whittlesey men and boys who served in both World Wars and other conflicts, however they are not listed on War Memorials.

I was very honoured to visit the National Arboretum last year where the majority of seafarers are listed.
My thanks as usual to The Whittlesey Branch of the Royal British Legion’ who every year fly my ‘Red Duster’ in commenoration of those who lives were lost at sea.
RIP
