The Travesty & The Success – Littering

I am once again proud to belong to, for over 14 years of Whittlesey Street Pride – still going and very well supported as can be seen from their New Years Day Litter-pick around the town centre.
Every two weeks the ‘team’ go and hit another area locally – several go out inbetween and carry out ‘picks’. I tend not to join in the winter months – not my weather but the litter is still there it never goes away – someone makes all this rubbish – tons and tons have been collected and now seperating cans makes even more difference.

Secretary Peter Davies updated the New Years pick…..

Welcome to 2024, it was really a tremendous turn out this morning with 22 members attending including our newest recruit 9 years old Kenna, a big welcome to you.
Plus we really did break all our records by collecting 43 bags of litter and an assortment of other debris.
Well done to all those that attended, we were then treated to light refreshments care of our Chairman Eamonn Dorling at the Wetherspoons George Hotel.

Another Flood Warning

Flood warning for B1040 Thorney to Whittlesey Road to the South of the River Nene

Heavy rain is currently falling in the Peterborough area which is causing the river levels to rise on the River Nene. The Whittlesey Wash flood storage reservoir is being operated to protect nearby communities from flooding. The rising levels in the Wash will result in flooding of the B1040 road. Whilst the Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority may close the B1040 for safety reasons. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media. We are closely monitoring the situation and this message will be updated by 16:00 on 03/01/2024, or before if the situation changes.

New Flood Warning In Effect

Flooding is possible for:
River Nene between Wansford and the Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice to the East of Peterborough.

Be prepared.

Heavy rainfall has fallen onto saturated ground over the past few days in the Lower Nene catchment area. This has caused river levels to rise, leading to flooding of low lying land and roads close to rivers. Further heavy rainfall is forecast today, Tuesday 2nd January, so we expect rivers to remain high throughout the next few days. Flooding to gardens, driveways or outhouses is possible close to the river. Our forecasts indicate that flooding inside properties is possible and therefore flood warnings may be expected to be issued. We are constantly monitoring river levels and have staff in the field checking for blockages and clearing weedscreens.
Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.

This message will be updated online and on Floodline by 16:00 on 03/01/2024, or before if the situation changes.

Flood Warning: North Bank Road Alongside The River Nene

You can get further information by clicking on the Flood Widget on the right.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION.

A Flood Warning has been issued by the Environment Agency.
Flood Warning in force: North Bank Road alongside the River Nene, east of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice.

Flooding is expected for: North Bank Road alongside the River Nene to the east of Peterborough and the West of the Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice.

Immediate action required.

Over the past few days heavy rain has fallen in the Peterborough area which is causing river levels to rise on the River Nene. During periods of high tide the River Nene will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions. This is likely to lead to localised flooding of the North Bank Road, between Peterborough and Rings End. Whilst this Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority will close North Bank Road. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. We are closely monitoring the situation and this message will be updated by 16:00 on 01/01/24, or before, if the situation changes.

Update – What a Lovely Boy – Did You See Him On TV

I am very proud to have been one of the first to engage with and donate to Tony Hudgell’s cause and charity in 2020. Now raised in excess of £1.3 Million.

I’ve done 3 previous articles of his journey so far, and this week I learn that he is to honoured by becoming the youngest ever recipient of a New Year’s Honour for his efforts in preventing child abuse. The nine-year-old, who is awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM).

Tony was 41 days old when he was assaulted by his birth parents, an attack which caused multiple fractures, dislocations and blunt trauma to the face, leading to organ failure, toxic shock and sepsis.

He was left untreated and in agony for 10 days, and due to the extent of his injuries both his legs had to be amputated. Jody Simpson, 29, and her partner Anthony Smith were jailed for 10 years in 2018.

Below my article on this web-blog June 2020

Inspirational Tony Hudgell was left fighting for his life and later lost his legs after months of abuse but is now thriving with his adoptive parents Paula and Mark!
We surprised him with a message from Frank Lampard
