The Three Horseshoes: Turves villagers set up residents’ association to save their only pub
Chairman Stephen Goldspink says the pub is the ‘only thing we’ve got’

A group of residents in a tiny Fenland village have banded together to try to save their local pub.

Around 30 people who live in Turves have set up a residents’ association in order to formalise their efforts to stop The Three Horseshoes pub on March Road from being demolished.

Chairman Stephen Goldspink explained that the new Turves and District Residents’ Association (TDRA) has applied to Fenland District Council (FDC) to have the pub designated as an Asset of Community Value (ACV). ACV status can be taken into consideration by a local authority when it considers planning applications and can also trigger a six month pause in proceedings if a community group wishes to buy the asset.

The plant off Storey’s Bar Road Cabinet member for waste and street scene at Peterborough City Council, Cllr Marco Cereste, welcomed the huge investment in the city.

At FDC’s Full Council Meeting – Monday.

Hot topic – naturally the proposed ‘Incinerator’ for Wisbech…..
Article by JE on The CambsNews Website©             Click Here

A campaign group – snubbed and ignored by Conservative councillors over the years – has suddenly come centre stage as Fenland District Council battles to stave off the threat of a £450m mega incinerator for Wisbech.

WisWIN – the key campaign group opposed to the incinerator where one of the coordinators is former independent councillor Virginia Bucknor – has been the most vociferous and persistent critic of the proposal by MVV Environment Ltd to develop a new energy from waste combined heat and power facility generating electricity and steam on land at Algores Way, Wisbech.

But it has worked in isolation from Wisbech Town Council who refused to join forces and pursued a ‘go it alone’ stance without the campaigning zeal, energy and expertise garnered by WisWIN.
