Need To Report Incidents – Please.

Our ‘anti-social behaviour’ is no different to any other area, however if issues are reported to the Police of Local Authority (Fenland District Council) resources will be given to tackle these issues.

Yesterday afternoon, we were alerted by CCTV operators of a motorbike riding round West End Park in March.
We headed over to the location and were able to locate the bike and the rider. The bike has been seized and the driver reported after checks found that it was being driven without a licence or insurance.

Anti-social vehicle use is an issue that our neighbourhood teams are continually tackling, but it isn’t possible without your help!

For more information around the issue and the option to report to us, you can visit our website here 👉 https://orlo.uk/6WKHn

Update – Memorial @ Eastrea Friday 19th April

Today I and several other Councillors (Mayor, Cllr Mrs Mayor, Cllr Elisabeth Sennitt Clough, Cllr Eamonn Dorling) joined organisers and sponsors Cllr Barry Wainwright and Cllr Bob Wicks for the comemoration of  the 80th anniverary of a Avro Lancaster Bomber which crashed in a field near Eastrea.

About 30 others – many from the village joined the service.

Photo, Mr Brian Browm who as a young boy didn’t actually see the aircraft crash but saw the fireball and was close by shortly afterwards.

Are YOU A Good/Safe Driver ?

Today I attended an ‘Older Driver Workshop’ @ Yaxley Fire Station along with 7 other participants, including a lady from Whittlesey.

No practical driving, but along with our host was a Police Constable responsible for accident reduction.
A mainly inter-active display on what ‘we’ should all be aware off and what to do about it.
I found the workshop informative and irrespective on what we think our driving habits are…was a useful 2 hours.

Unfortunately no workshop planned for Whittlesey, but I have asked the hosts to approach their management and there is a good chance we may get one.
You can book a place at Ramsey/March or Stanground – see below.

Older Driver Workshops

Our Older Driver Workshops are free, in person sessions designed for those over 65 and currently driving, to help you keep driving safely for longer. We discuss how driving can become more challenging as we get older, and what simple checks we can do at home to keep ourselves fit to drive.

This interactive, two-hour session covers the following topics:

  • Age-related changes when driving
  • Eyesight and driving
  • Conducting a vehicle check
  • License renewal
  • Signs to be aware of
  • Alternatives to driving

Please note our Older Driver Workshop does not include a supervised drive. All activities and discussion occur at the venue and refreshments are provided.

Who is the workshop for?

Our workshops are designed for those aged 65 and over who are still currently driving. We will accept those aged under 65 if they are accompanying a driver over 65, for instance husband, wife, partner, parent, friend.

Where are the workshops held?

They are held at various locations across Cambridgeshire. If you’d like a workshop in your area, please contact us.

How long do the workshops last?

The workshops last for two hours, including a break for refreshments which are provided.

What if there isn’t a workshop in my area?

Please contact us using the email address if you’d like to attend a workshop but there are none listed in your area. We regularly arrange new workshops depending on demand in an area.

Can you arrange a workshop for my group?

If you’re a member of a group and would like us to come and run a workshop for you, please get in touch using our email address.

Is there a driving assessment?

Absolutely not!
The workshop is based around group discussion and practical tips you can complete yourself at home. There is no need to drive to the venue, and you will not be “assessed” at any point during the workshop.

£6.7 Million Lost to Ticket Fraud in 2023

New data released today by Action Fraud reveals £6.7 million was lost to ticket fraud last year. https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/ticketfraud

Action Fraud, the national fraud and cybercrime reporting service, has launched a ticket fraud awareness campaign, warning people to be alert to fraudsters trying to catch out people planning for popular and sold-out events. Last year more than 8,700 people reported they had been a victim ticket fraud, with a total of £6.7 million lost. This works out to an average loss of £772 per victim.

How to protect yourself from ticket fraud:

·  Only buy tickets from the venue’s box office, the promoter, an official agent or a well-known and reputable ticket exchange site.

·  Avoid paying for tickets by bank transfer, especially if buying from someone unknown. Credit card or payment services such as PayPal give you a better chance of recovering the money if you become a victim of fraud.

·  The password you use for your email account, as well as any other accounts you use to purchase tickets, should be different from all your other passwords. Use three random words to create a strong and memorable password, and
enable 2-step verification (2SV).

·  Be wary of unsolicited emails, texts or adverts offering unbelievably good deals on tickets.

·  Is the vendor a member of Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers (STAR)? If they are, the company has signed up to their strict governing standards. STAR also offers an approved Alternative Dispute Resolution service to help customers with outstanding complaints. For more information visit star.org.uk/buy_safe.

Report ticket fraud

If you feel at all suspicious, report the email to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS) at [email protected].
For more advice on how to stay secure online, please visit cyberaware.gov.uk.

If you live in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and have been a victim of fraud or cybercrime, report it at www.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040. In Scotland, victims of fraud and cybercrime should report to Police Scotland on 101.

Inconsiderate Parking Delays Firefighter Response

Peterborough firefighters were delayed while responding to an emergency on Friday evening due to badly parked vehicles.

A crew from Dogsthorpe Fire Station was delayed multiple times on their way to an incident due to inconsiderate parking on multiple roads in the Millfield area of the city. Many vehicles, in particular a van, were poorly parked narrowing the road, which prevented the fire engine from travelling.

The crew was unable to proceed until they had located the owner and requested the van be moved, delaying them by around ten minutes.

A fire service spokesperson said: “Inconsiderate parking is an issue we face across the county when responding to emergencies, in particular in built up areas such as Peterborough, Cambridge, Huntingdon and Wisbech. There are narrow streets where vehicles park on both sides of the road which, although legal to do so, does make it much harder for a fire engine to travel along.

“Fortunately, on this occasion the incident turned out to be a false alarm, but at the time we were not to know that. The delay caused by the parked vehicles could have resulted in a far more serious incident escalating.

“The average fire engine needs around three metres of clearance to safely travel along a road.
Please consider this when you park and if in doubt find somewhere else to leave your vehicle.”
