I Was There – Don’t Believe FB Postings…..

Today Cllr Simon Black organised a ‘Car Boot’ at The Manor Field Whittlesey, when this was done, no one knew that the England Womens Team would have reached the final.
There was – the well organised ‘Yard Sale’ and the Pétanque event in Coates.

I was at the Manor area at 08:15 this morning to support Cllr Black, there was about 8/10 Car Booters  and 2 Food Trucks and The Ice-Cream Man. It was light on numbers but most did some sales. We decided to call it a day at 13:00.

In-between I visited some 20 Yard Sales and they were ALL – light on public participation.
I’d thank the organisers of the Yard Sale (DeFibs) and Cllr Simon Black for his efforts in trying to get something off the ground.

Who knows – maybe there will be another opportunity.

Whittlesey Shop Has A Visit…..

Whittlesey HMRC
During the week, local officers caught up with some of our colleagues over at HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) who were in Whittlesey. 🚨
These officers are from one of the enforcement teams conducting checks and taking action against sellers of illegal vape and tobacco products. In one shop in Whittlesey, a number of illegal vapes and some tobacco products have been seized. 🚔

Contacting Cambridgeshire Police – When and How.

Here is a reminder of how you can contact Cambridgeshire Police, and when it is most appropriate to use each method of contact.

Calling 999:

If you are involved or are witness to a situation where:

  • you think things could get heated or violent very soon,
  • someone is in serious danger or harm,
  • a disruption to the public is likely,
  • you require police assistance right away,

please call 999 – this is what we would classify as an emergency. If you accidentally dial 999, please stay on the line and tell the operator you’re safe and that no crime has occurred. If you’re in danger but you can’t talk on the phone, you should still call 999, then follow these instructions.

If you have a hearing or speech impairment, you can use our textphone service 18000 or text us on 999 if you’ve pre-registered with the emergencySMS service. If you’re a British Sign Language (BSL) user, you can call 999 BSL to use a remote BSL interpreter.

Calling 101:

101 is our non-emergency phone number. Please use 101 to:

  • report minor and non-urgent crimes
  • to report crimes that are not currently in progress (where a high-priority response is not required)
  • or to offer evidence in an investigation.

If you have a hearing or speech impairment, use our textphone service on 18001 101.

When you call us on 101, call handlers will ask you for some information about the reason for your call so they can ‘triage’ the call, and direct you to the relevant team.

During busy periods, you may have to wait for an operator to assist you. If you do have access to online services, these can be used to skip the queues on the 101 phone line.

We offer a live web chat service which can be accessed via our website (click the green speech bubble in the corner of the screen and you will be connected to an operator). Web chat can be used for advice, guidance or to report a non-urgent crime. Web chats are dealt with in the same way, and by the same people as 101 calls.

You can also report non-emergency crimes via our website at any time using our online report forms. Again, these are dealt with in the same way, and by the same people as 101 calls. You will receive an auto-response with your crime reference number, your crime will be recorded by our operators and they will be in touch if they need more information from you.

Please note that waste and litter, fly tipping, pests, noise complaints, discard syringes or drug paraphernalia, dangerous buildings or structures and burst water mains are all council issues, and not police.

Social media

You can also direct message us on Facebook and Twitter to report non-urgent crime. Follow us on Twitter and on Facebook. Replies are not instant but our inboxes are monitored.

Road Mayhem Surrounding Whittlesey

Months of various roadworks, some good in maintaining terms, the rest may be necessary, however the word ‘Mayhem’ is an understatement. As Councillors we have little input into these works.
All the ‘Utilities‘ seem to be here at the same time along with our latest ‘friends’ –
City Cable/Contractors, who I spoke with one foreman yesterday, and asked ‘how long they plan to be digging in Whittlesey’ – he rolled his eyes and said well we’ve been in Leicester several years…..

Message received from Cllr Laws….

Delph Road Closure 230818

Just received confirmation from TMC (Traffic Management Team) 3 x Whittlesey Highway Electronic Information Boards are set until 8th September 2023 and advises roadworks at East Delph (B1040) and single lane traffic only.

Have been advised Cadent Gas Contractors have set out cones/single line traffic signs today and do not appear to be working at East Delph (B1040) adjacent to Delph Garage & opposite Hemmerley Drive.

At the moment many drivers are ignoring the single lane traffic cones/signs and not waiting or giving way. Several are trying to turn in the entrance of Hemmerley Drive holding up the flow of traffic.

P J Thory’s transport office has called to say their drivers have reported avoiding cars not giving way, not waiting and vehicles attempting  ‘U’ turns at East Delph. Also Delph Garage customers trying to enter the flow of traffic.

I’ve just noticed a substantial increase of unfamiliar vehicles using West Delph and HGV’s when reaching the track leading to Morton’s Leam forced to reverse and use Yarwell Headlands ‘T’ junction for turning and returning to the B1040.

I can only assume non-local drivers think West Delph is an alternative route to the Dog-in-a-Doublet.
I have been assured CCC Street Works Manager is on his way to visit East Delph & discuss with Cadent Contractors to ensure the appropriate signage is in place for 3 weeks of temporary works. Apparently, they cannot install temporary traffic lights owing to the works being in such close proximity to The Morton Fork 4-way traffic light cross road.
CCC said the only other option is for a complete road closure between Morton Fork crossroad and South of the Dog-in-a-Doublet.

My suggestion is Cadent Contractors employ/assign a work team to use manual stop/go signs during working hours and take the cones/barriers back to a safe distance allowing two-way traffic at night & weekends. I’m waiting for a response to my suggestion and a call back from CCC Street Works Manager.

At the moment CCC Highways consider drivers will act responsibility and appropriately – in my opinion that isn’t going to happen !
