Feedback Wanted on Fenland Railway Station Upgrade

Fenland residents have been invited to share their views on plans to upgrade Whittlesea Station at an event next month.

Current plans for the station include lengthening platforms, creating a new footbridge and a new car park.

Passenger shelters and a second ticket machine have already been added since the plans were first drawn up in 2013.

Later this month Fenland District Council is due to approve an agreement with the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority to obtain £3m of funding set aside for the project.

The latest phase of work on the project follows a decision in 2022 to upgrade the existing station rather than establish a new one.

A project board considered the possibility but ultimately concluded that the cost would be prohibitive.

A feedback event for residents will be hosted by Hereward Community Rail Partnership at Whittlesey Town Council offices on Queen Street on 28 June.

It will be part of a series of events aimed at gathering input about the station’s redevelopment.
