For as long as I can remember our toilets in Whittlesey have been vandalised.
At one stage during the early 70’s we had 6 or 7 public toilets in town.
As they became more vandalised, Fenland District Council shut them down.
There is no legal obligation for Councils to provide toilet facilities.
Eventually all 4 market towns within Fenland had just one refurbished toilet facility each.
Recently Wisbech Town Council have earmarked £30,000+ per year to run and maintain the toilet facilities at Horsefair Shopping Centre – with very limited hours of manned opening.
If the continued vandalism carries on – it is only a matter of time that toilets become uneconomical to run and maintain.
Yes many go the The George – but they may well clamp down on non customers using their facilities.
