Shoplifting & Retial Crime

I will not reveal the amount of shop-lifting that occurs here in Whittlesey, but it is somewhat surprising daily the amount
of goods stolen from our super-markets – the figures are probably even higher than what is recorded
At the end of the day, it is the paying customer who has to cover these loses (Shrinkage). One of the local priorities is tackling retail crime across March, Chatteris, and Whittlesey, particularly shoplifting and anti-social behaviour (ASB).

A way that we have been addressing these concerns is through regular patrols of the shops across the sector, speaking to staff members.

Officers spent the day visiting various shops and distributing leaflets explaining how they can report retail crime to us, and some prevention advice. It was a very insightful and productive day, with shops raising a number of crimes to us.
To help us in tackling this issue, we would like to encourage businesses to report any incidents to us so we can identify offenders and hotspot areas, and inform the future work that we do for this.
